OK, as many of you know, I have a Standard AND an Interstate.
After my roundabout route to IZ-XI and a desire to do more long distance riding, I am considering a Russell Day-Long saddle.
Here is my question... I'd like to have a 2-piece saddle for both me, and my wife. My IS seat is a 1-piece. But I'd like to be able to use the drivers saddle solo on the standard too.
Will this work? What would I have to do to make it all work?
I THINK that all I should have to do is find a used, 2 piece standard or tourer seat set to use as a seat pan, and have them make it for the IS. Then, use the drivers saddle on my Standard when I desire to do so.
Can anyone comment? I called Russell and they didn't seem to be SURE.

Pretty suer the Interstate tank is a bit longer so unless your Standard has an Interstate tank, they won't be interchangeable.

I have a Tourer/Standard seat on my Interstate. The fact that it rest against the tank a bit does not bother me. I also have a Tourer/Standard seat on my Tourer, not swapping seats.

As mentioned a IS seat on an Standard does cause the front of the seat to intrude on the gas tank.
You may or may not like the look of that.

I don't think the Interstate tank is any longer.....it's taller/fatter at the seat end of the tank. Not sure if your plan would work (thinking not), but you might could consider putting an I/S tank of your tourer and then seat compatability wouldn't be a problem for either one of your Valks.

JAbba,
Pop the key in and plunk down the standard seat you have.... might need a little push, but it should go and will touch the tank. I have been using a modified Standard seat on my I/S Super Valk for a year. I used to switch it out with the I/S for long trips, but now I just leave it. Gives me more room for a cooler instead of a passenger. The rear pad should bolt on regular also. The mounts are the same. I don't use the pillion pad because I have a Utopia Back rest and seat rail and its to much of a pain to unbolt it all to put on the I/S seat with the Utopia mount.

That's what I was looking for.
I ride the STD one up a lot more often. But the IS probably more miles. I sure would like to be able to use my potential new $700 saddle on both.

But, a Day long does not go up and over the tank as much, so i believe it is less of an issue than an Ultimate, which goes over the tank a little.

I think it'll be OK. My stock STD seat goen onto my IS without issue.
I'll be looking for a duplicate set of stock seats to carve into russells.

I have a 98 tourer with an Interstate tank. I run a two piece seat that came off a 98 standard. Yeah thats right a 98 standard. Been down the Alaska/Canadian Highway three times and wouldnt trade that seat for the world. HAHAHAHAHA
