Stopped by Wally World on the way home from the Great American Bluegrass Festival. A friend is the promoter and I've been helping out some. My wife had got up with me and was in her cage. She left out maybe a minute before I did as I was talking to a fellow that was wiring up a xm radio on his wing. Anyway, I got up to the light leading out to 431, waited maybe 30 seconds for the light to change. It is a double turn lane to the left. I usually wait about 3-4 seconds to make sure everyone stops before proceeding. I waited about 2 seconds and saw a car slowing to stop, the car on my left had just taken off so I hit the gas. Good thing I waited the 2 seconds cause as I got into the medium I caught a glimpse of a red extended Chevy pickup blasting thru the light. I clutched it and watched him come to a screeching halt on the shoulder. He was pretty shaken as I was letting the Stabel blast to let him know how stupid he looked. As I pulled up beside him slowly, I kinda felt sorry for him cause he was just froze. It was wierd that it didn't shake me at all. Had I not hesitated that 2 seconds, he would have t-boned me.

Like I always say, ride often, ride safe, ride like everyone is trying to kill ya.

Good thing you were looking out.  Glad that you or no one else was hurt; perhaps the other guy leaqrned something and he'll be a bit more careful behind the wheel.  An instant of distraction can change peoples lives forever.

Had a close call myself last week.  Would have been the other person's fault but I was VERY annoyed with myself that I didn't see it coming sooner.  Started to turn right in front of a curb-parked car into the driveway of a restaurant and the lady in the car just took off from the curb once I started turning in front of her.  No signal, nothing.  Her PASSENGER is the one who noticed me- pointing and yelling as the driver was yakking away back at her.  I don't think I would have been hurt at the low speed but would have hated watching her SUV grind up my Valk!

I understand the idea that you need to ride safe, ride alert, and ride like they are all trying to kill ya!

I was going through a small town on the main drag. Bluelights had traffic stopped up ahead around a wreck. I sat patiently for a moment to see if traffic was going to move. It wasn't. I was close to a side road to the left. I put on my blinker, double checked in all directions and started with caution in the turn.

At the same time the bright yellow Monte Carlo in front of me decided to make the same turn for the same road without any signaling and without looking.

I was able to swerve away from the bright yellow car. I was at her driver side window when I blew the horn as I moved away. She looked around for a block and never did see me. I fell in behind her so I could keep an eye on her. She made the next several turns without her turn signals and did rolling stops throguh all the stop signs without any head movement to check other directions that I could see from behind her.

Ride like you're invisible, and ride like when you can be seen they want to kill you. That is good advice.

Glad you are Ok.  I had a truck with a couple of low-lifes pull out from a sideroad without stopping on my way home yesterday.  I was traveling 30 so was able to stop short by about 10 feet.  He and his buddy stared at me as they passed.
