The Twilight Zone

« on: August 04, 2011, 08:40:36 AM »

I am 6'3 with a 34" inseam and $2000.00 and 6 months later I still can't get comfortable and need some advice please. I'm getting so frusturated to the point of selling it as much as I love the bike itself! I like the more laid back position myself as I'm used to.

What I've done: Full set of Ultimates, Cobra floorboards, Rattlebar shifter, and Kury ISO winged floorboards with 4" extenders around $300. They work but are close to the ground and need to be even lower. They come very close to the ground in cuves now. The bottom of my feet need to go out about 4-6" past the engine guard  and high enough where they don't hit. I'll try to post a picture and I also need your honest opinion on the way the ISO look now. To me they look a little goofy sticking way out, then again it might be just me so please be honest. Surely they make something as I described above,4-6" past bar and slim looking. I really don't want to sell my baby when everything else about her is perfect. Comfort for me is a priority as I sometimes ride 4-500 miles a weekend.  And these tall guys running over 1000 miles to Inzane..what's your secret?? I know there is an easy solution.

Thanks in advance guys!  Wink

6'7", 315 pounds...

Hartco custom seat that I had custom made and lifts me up 2-3" above stock is my secret...

It's ugly as hell, but it works VERY well for me. I've got a 6'1" friend who can't flat foot my bike because of it, but it's perfect for me...

I've also got the tallest Progressive shocks on the back, and the Rattlebars peg lowering kit with stock pegs...

I've got Kurakyn highway pegs, but I set 'em up so that I can splay my legs out and have my calves resting on the pegs, not my feet. Works well for me...

I'm 6'6" with a 36" inseam and very comfortable on my Interstate. For one thing you need the king boy seat and loose the back rest. It looks like you have a big boy seat from your picture.  It will set you back another 2". I've tried the back rest and even with the king boy seat it pushes me to far forward. The only time I use a back rest is when I'm on a long trip and use the tbag as one. It still lets me sit back. It made a big difference when I got the king boy seat. I even removed the peg lowering kit so I would get more ground clearance in the corners. I think one of the reasons I haven't bought another bike is because nothing else fits me as well. I am about to roll over 100,000 miles on mine. Keep working on it and I'm sure you'll get it right for you.

Nice bike, I believe we have the fastest color!  Grin Man I am a midget compared to you but not far behind in weight! That seat has to be high because when I tried my Kurys at your angle, my knees about hit my mouth! If I went a notch lower with mine it would feel right but would wipeout on the first curve. Oh I overread- you said you put your calves on the pegs. Gottcha!

Almost forgot, another trick I use that really helps on long rides and is free (If you're riding solo!)... I'll tuck my legs up and rest the heel of my boot on the PASSENGER pegs... Takes a little practice to get it right where your foot doesn't end up on the exhaust, but once ya' get it, it's a VERY comfortable position to alternate to for long rides. (And, IMHO, on the long rides, it's all about having as many alternatives as possible. No one position is gonna cut it, it's giving yourself as many alternatives as possible that makes it tolerable for me. Regular pegs, highway pegs, tucked up behind me on passenger pegs, rinse, repeat, refuel...)

this should help some   Offsets forward on the crash bar with switchblades  You can use floorboards up there also

For highway driving you just can not beat the mick-o-pegs  the site is ridingiswonderful.com

They are not for twisties but they are spring loaded and you wont tip over if they lift  They will surprise you when it happens the first time  lol

In the first photo it appears you perhaps have an Ultimate Lowrider seat.  If so, that is just what you DON"T need.  I have an Ultimate KING Big Boy, it sits you higher and more rearward (I had previously tried the Big Boy and it didn't do it for me.). I also have a Rattlebar's peg lowering kit and a set of handlebar risers. Although I also have a set of Kury highway pegs, I seldom use them. I have yet to do 1000 miles in a single day, but I have went pass 600 on a few occasions.

Thanks Dave, I wished I'd bought a King now but after $1140 I'm done with seats! Lol The Bigboy sits me up and back and when I use th BR I got it set just right. I believe just the right pegs will do it for me. I only have a 34" and by Ultimate guidelines I am border line. Congrats on the over 100,000!!!  Wink

Thanks Oss, I believe that's EXACTLY what I need!!  The thing about my floorboards is they'll only fit on the cross bar bc the engine guards are 1 1/8" I think.  So I assume yours is Kury switchblades?
Yea they look nice and neat and narrow. I just hate now I spent $300 on my Kurys. Don't ya think they look a little gaudy? They look great down like regular flooboards.

I've heard good things about the mick-o-pegs but kinda leary bc I'm always in the mountains.
 Thanks again Oss!!

Hi tall guy club  Smiley

I am 6'6", inseem 36" and this works for me pretty well:

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/jFL_2urGiy_R4IFagTxU6Uv7u68vojyNB1goV3D65TQ?feat=directlink
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/H-g8QW-r8gO52nSzU18jjkv7u68vojyNB1goV3D65TQ?feat=directlink
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/hyVnGf9IYNtIUITaKP_ESkv7u68vojyNB1goV3D65TQ?feat=directlink

As you can see there is still some room to lower them pegs further and also narrow curves are no problem.

Your Kury pegs should bring your feet out front even further, but you need the Goldwing valve cover guards.

X Guy

I also have a 34" inseam and 6 feet tall.
I have a set of fwd/dual controls from Barry Feicks site out of New Zealand. These let you retain your stock pegs and also give you a set of forward contols as well. You can use either as they are connected.
It's worked for me for years.
Good luck

I have never had foward contols and would be afraid to buy them since I already got $300 in mine. So far I think I'll try what Oss  and eric posted.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Rotate those 4050 mounts infront of the crash bar.....say on the left side, 270degree's clockwise.  Remove the 4" extentions....or if you need them, you can have yet 4 more inches....  Thats the beauty of the 4050 kury's....adjust them how you need them.

Thet make different sized clamps. Here is a list. You can get a larger size to fit on the crash bars.

Mine look like the photo Oss posted. I use the longhorn off of the engine guard.

Do they even make 1 1/8" clamps, I didn't see any. May I can take some thin rubber or something to make up the difference.

YOu need to do what Eric did.

Get further back and further down.

Risers can bring you bars back too you.

WHat in particular is bothering you .

That damn Ultimate seat would have my balls in an uproar.

Not enough room for hte boys is a problem, number 1.

I am the same size as you .

Mustang seat with a back rest and Kuryaken pegs that are not even as nice as yours.

No problems at all.

I have an Alsakan Leather seat cover that I don't even use.

Again where is your exact pain?

YOur Pegs are not far enough forward.

I am 6'3" and 270 on the nose.

34 inch inseam.

Those highway pegs you have are some of the best you can buy.

But are the wrong ones for you.

Mine are Kuryaken mounted on the crash bar loops and forward of the bar as far as the p-clamps are concerned.

You need to get  the pegs your feet are on in front of the crash bar loops.

Use the direct clamps and the drop bars to get this effect.

Relax you can use most of what you already have on your bike except those mounts.

I'll include a pic of mine.

OOPS wrong pic

Not the one I was looking for but you get the idea and the type I am talking about.

I am the same size as you xguy. I have my pegs on the crash bars just got a Big boy seat at Izane but  Des told me if I felt that it pushed my to far forward he would exchange it for a king as long as i paid the diffrence. 780 miles later when I got home called them and the King is on the way. I think if you put your pegs on crash bars and upgrade to the king seat as everyopne has suggested you should be riding in comfort. The 780 miles was done in straight through. The ultimate seat made a big diffence over the Corbin I had.

Diito on the pegs but I am keeping the bigboys, they are comfortable and I just paid $1140.00 for a 5 pc. set in March so I'll just have to wear them out before I consider the King! 2funny I think when I get the peg problem I'll be happy. Wink

Al if you'll look at the last bottom 3 pics the offset goes around the bars. I''ve had them about straight out and then couldn't reach them! I'll try again tomorrow maybe I'll get lucky. If that doesn't work Ill try what you said. Scott told me to set them at 270 degrees..I'll try that too. I wished I hadn't bought my set up now bc I saw some Kury switchblade flames at Directline for $150 .

Thanks Wink

Just wanted to thank you for your help. I actually got my pegs in the perfect position for me  It took a lot of head and butt scratching and plaaying around with it but got er done!  2funny 2funny If I had another hand that would have helped a lot rather than jumping on and off the bike for fit!

Thanks!  cooldude

Here's the web site for the forward controls. I'd be very interested in your rattlebar kick shifter if anyone replaces there kick shifter with one of these forward controls set up.

Do you have a website address for those forward controls?  I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I also have a 34" inseam and 6 feet tall.
I have a set of fwd/dual controls from Barry Feicks site out of New Zealand. These let you retain your stock pegs and also give you a set of forward contols as well. You can use either as they are connected.
It's worked for me for years.
Good luck

Tall/big guy club entry
I have an ultimate King
I have the forward Controls from New Zealand
I have extra pegs mounted above the forward control (my version of switch-blades)
I have floor boards

I like my setup
I was VERY sad when I tool off the mik-o-pegs to install the forward controls
I will upload a better pic later of both sided tonight.

Lose the Big Boy and get a King.  You won't have any problem selling your BB w/BR.  The King uses a BR that bolts to the fender.  I am 6' with an inseam of about 31", so ignore Ultimate's guidelines.  The extra 2" is important.

Same here...little over 6', 30" to 31" inseam...had BB, sold it and got KBB...much more comfortable! cooldude
