Palace Theater - Grapevine - Biker Movie Series Aug 12, 19, 26th

In August, the Palace Theater in Grapevine is having a Biker Movie Series.

August 12th - Easy Rider starts at 7:30 P.M. Tickets are $5.00

August 19th - Electra Glide in Blue. Movie starts at 7:30 P.M.

August 26th - World's Fastest Indian.  Movie starts at 7:30 P.M.

Uh oh.  I only got a few pages into old yeller before the cruelty made me sick.  I never finished it.  I've seen World's Fastest Indian - it's great - and assumed the hippie / pot / naked hippie girl aspects of Easy Rider would be better than the shocking slow motion ending of Electra Glide in Blue.  Hmmm...

It's worth seeing at least once; I watched it a few months back on Netflix and may go see it again Friday.

Thagandy, Hollyday, SixGuns and RainMaker made it to the Palace theatre to see Easy Rider with a hundred or so of our closest Harley friends.  Most of the HD riders sat in the balcony so it was nice on the main floor where we sat 

Popcorn and pop was only a dollar so it was a cheap flick.  They served the cola in Harley plastic glasses but they didn't leak.  The print really looked good and for the most part, gave you the feeling of freedom while riding.  Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper were darn good riders to do as much parallel riding and some stunts they did with those hard tail bikes. 

Kinda' felt like they ran out of ideas at the end so just decided to kill everyone off.  Oh, well.

Next week - Electra Glide in Blue.  We need more Valks out there!

Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper were darn good riders to do as much parallel riding and some stunts they did with those hard tail bikes. 

My favorite part was Jack Nicholson sitting on the back of the Harley with a football helmet strapped on.

Disco, SixGuns, RainMaker and Mrs. RainMaker showed up and used ThagAndy's tickets (thanks, Randy) to see "Electra Glide in Blue".  Crowd seemed a little smaller than last week, but a whole lotta' Harley riders in the house. 

Best line in the movie - John Wintergreen (Robert Blake): "I hate that motorcycle they make me ride. I'm here to tell you there ain't nothing in the world I hate worse than that elephant under my ass."   Even the Harley guys had to laugh at that one.

My wife summed up the movie best.  After it was over, she stated that "I've seen better plots in porn films".  I could not agree more.  But it was fun being out with Disco and SixGuns at the movie.

Afterwards, Disco, me and the spousal unit went to Willhoites for food and beer and then headed home after dinking the Shiner Bock tank.


Next week, it's "The World's Fastest Indian" which I recall was a GOOD movie.  Hope to see a big crowd of Valks out there.

Next to seeing Six Guns, RainMaker, and finally obtaining proof-of-life for Mrs RainMaker, the best part of last Friday is NEXT FRIDAY!     For those who haven't seen World's Fastest Indian, it's must-see.  IMO, it's a great movie.  

Now, back to Electra Glide in Blue.  Hmmm...  Weird movie...  Copyright 1973 helps explain...  I'd bet writer/producer/director and most of the rest were doing lots of "experimenting".    

The elephant line did get a few giggles.  They seemed to be concentrated in one row.     The line of the night, however, goes to Mrs RainMaker.  Instant classic.  

In one of the hippie commune scenes, I thought I spied a young Nick Nolte milling about.  I joked to RM that he would show up as "hippie #14".  He is uncredited, but described as "hippie kid"!
