I recently posted an ad on Kijiji for bud who is selling his Honda Fury.

I recieved the following querie...............Anything to add or ads say it all?

I replied ............Anything in particular you want to know ???

His responce ...........just wanted to make sure nothing has been left out
I will purchase at your listed price.Payment will be sent using PayPal and ill handle the PayPal surcharge if they are any.Let me know if you are ok with this,so that I can arrange for pick up as i wont be able to do it myself as i am out of town at the moment.I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too, since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.

Regards

I have heard of the Western Union scams but not any dealing with Paypal..............is this a new one,  does not sound on the up and up to me.

You could respond with " Pickup will be arranged after a two week period to allow confirmation of Paypal funds transfer to my account".  If there's any legitimacy to his offer at all, then he would understand and probably agree.  If he complains, then he's a scammer. Tell him so.

Run. Do not walk.

Kijiji is intended for local, face to face buys for the most part. Smells scammy...

But, if you continue down that path, at least try to solidify a pic of a real person. If he has PP, he likely has an eBay ID. Get it. Phone number? That would be a must. Where does he live? Where and for how long is he 'out of town'?

The scam could be as simple as trying to hijack the PayPal account, or as nasty as stealing the bike.

Lastly if he's willing to arrange pick-up, he should be able to have the picker-upper bring cash.

Smells...

Darkmiester, that's perfect  cooldude .............here's the reply, I'm not expecting a responce anytime soon.

Sounds good, just a few questions......What is your name, where are you located, what is your phone number and how long will you be out of town ?  Oh and sorry I don’t take Paypal, Cash only and in person. Thanx

Standard scam response.  I won't answer emails for CL anymore.  Talk to them on the phone or move on.

Common PayPal scam.  PayPal is great but...... there is a loophole, if you will, that allows international PayPal payers to ask for a refund if the item is not received so it's a big scam for these international douchebags to contact you with some rooster and bull story and agree to pay full asking price, they are going to be on an oil rig, etc, etc........  Just say no or better yet say nothing at all.

Cash and carry.  Good luck.  Steve

Forward his note to PayPal and ask if there is a risk you should be aware of?  They may even have something posted in their FAQs.

I recently received a suspicious email from someone on eBay who was going to give me a 2nd chance for a Valk I was looking at.  I looked at the eBay FAQ and it described the scam almost word for word.  The FAQ asked me to forward the email to their scamline.  I did, and they responded that it was indeed a scam.

It could be that his English just isn't very good and that his interest and willingness to pay are genuine.  Can you image how good your bid would be if you had to bid on a French auction?
