Same for me G-Man. 4-5 years ago a few VRCC friends kept telling me to give it a try(KirkB!) and when I needed a new laptop I bought a MacBook. I've never looked back. I'm not an Mac evangelist or anything, but they are great for what I need them to do.
Now I have an iMac, a MacBook, iPad, iPhone 4, AppleTV , and an Airport Extreme router.....
I still have my old Windoze PC, but only because I need it for VRCC admin duties on occasion.

G-Man... You won't look back... except to wonder a few more times why you didn't do it sooner.
I've been a constant Mac user since they came out in 1984 and stuck with it through all the hard times when it looked like Apple wouldn't survive. Scott in OK says he's not a Mac evangelist... Well I am and have been all these years. After I retired from law enforcement I started my own business, Mr. Mac Computer Services, and support Macs throughout the Midlands of SC.
I'm seeing more and more stories just like yours nowadays with folks who finally get tired of Windows and their inherent problems, and take the plunge.
I currently have over 1,000 clients in my database. That's a testimony to the stability of the Mac platform. I'm a one man show and can support that many clients. Big companies, small companies, and hundreds of residentials. I've set up new systems for people that I don't hear from again for years, usually until they get ready to buy another computer. That's stability!
If you need any help or have some questions just send me a note and I'll give you my phone number and I'll be glad to chat with you and answer your questions.

I HATE, HATE, HATE Apple corp. They've become everything that they railed against in the famous "1984" commercial. I would like to punch Steve Jobs right in his razor-face.
That said, I love their computers. I will never buy another Windows machine again. I only have one now for dealing with my music (I refuse to deal with iTunes and Apple's RIAA BS).

"I HATE, HATE, HATE" Now there's a shock! But I'm curious about your statement of "...Apple's RIAA BS". Could you elaborate on that a little because you completely lost me there.

Hey Serk, We upgraded my wife's iPhone yesterday so I have a 8gig 3G iPhone that is in great working order that I would make you a deal on. All you would have to do is take it to the Apple store and have it activated in your name. It is the older model but for $50 I don't think you could go wrong.

But I'm curious about your statement of "...Apple's RIAA BS". Could you elaborate on that a little because you completely lost me there. Sure. Some time ago Apple decided to get in bed with the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in order to curry favor for it's burgeoning Apple music sourcing (iTunes store). Apple aggressively helps the RIAA enforce copyright and anti piracy laws to the point where it makes dealing with tier products a hassle. For instance, if you own an iPod and load it up with music from your computer it's then tied to THAT computer and you cannot upload the library from your iPod to another computer. You also cannot DL any other music from another computer onto your iPod. And there's other things... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/11/07/your_99c_belong/I know there are ways around it, but I'd rather just get a Sansa MP3 player that allows me to use it like a thumb drive. I can just drag and drop files into it without a hassle. iTunes itself is also a virus-like program.

I am actually using a 3 gs iPhone that I got for free (hand-me-down.... from an upgrader to iPhone 4... gotta luv those product upgrades from Apple! Cant wait til the 5 version comes out.).....
But instead of paying $70+ a month for a contract, I "jailbroke" it and am using a pay as you go GoPhone from ATT..... I can get data for free on WiFi, which is almost everywhere... But I have all my music and, of course, access to all the fun Apps....
For the minutes I use as a phone, it might cost me $15- 20 per month...... Only bad part is $.20 per text.......
So if you want an iPhone without the big fees..... It can be done. Just look on the web.

Anvil,
I also hated that at first when I went Apple only 8 years ago.... but there are several programs that allow conversion and to be able to get Music from any iPod... I use Touch Copy......
And you can now easily convert the ITunes MP4 format to MP3 in ITunes now...... I HAve to do it to get tehm on my Nook E-reader
I don't have a problem with RIAA... The Artists gotta eat too!

I'm really liking my "new" iPod classic that my co-worker gave me after she heard me complaining about the bustage of my old iPod classic. My car came with an iPod adaptor, I don't care what the iPod looks like, I don't care if it has apps, I don't care if it has a color screen... I just want music to come out when I turn on the car stereo... -Mike

Maybe I'll look into that. I had a 1st gen iPod that just died a couple months back and I've been thinking of replacing it with a nicer player (the Sansa clips are nice and cheap, but sound quality could be better). I really love the hardware.

The Ipod Nanos can be had with almost 10 times the storage of the originals in a 3rd the size.... kinda ridiculous....
I have 10 DAYS worth of Music on my iPhone and duplicated on my 32 gig iPod...... I rarely even use the iPod now... just the phone for music.... Even then I sitll have room for double that.
I actually D-loaded ALL of my CD collection..... only took like a week or so!

Appreciate the offer, but my comment was tongue in cheek... I hate to agree with Anvil, but I hate Apple the company with a passion, they truly have become everything they used to rail against... I despise their "Walled Garden" approach... And yes, I know you can jailbreak 'em, but you shouldn't have to NEED to... No, I'm VERY happy with my Samsung Infuse 4G Android phone... Seriously though, thanks for the offer!

The tunes you get from Apple are completely DRM free. There is no copy protection attached to them. You can burn them to CDs and copy from the CDs to any other computer if you like. iTunes Store and DRM-free music: What you need to know http://www.macworld.com/article/138000/2009/01/drm_faq.htmlYou can also copy all your tunes from the computer to a hard drive, flash drive, or such and then copy them from that to any other computer. I think your ideas about how Apple helps out the RIAA are from a backwards perspective though. Apple is the one who finally convinced the RIA to let them sell without DRM. Anyway, just get yourself a little program named "senuti" and you can copy to and from an iPod to and from any other computer. It's not hard.

Anvil said... "Fair enough then.

However, from my own point of view, being able to use the better music player would justify dealing with iTunes. After all, you don't have to g in there and change stuff around every day. And, when iCloud goes live, we will have over the air syncing.
I read an article... based on a rumor... just the other day that Apple is working on a complete re-write of iTunes. We all know what rumors are worth but I would be right there with everyone else in happiness at seeing a new version.
