Any idea what should be considered a reasonable weight limit for that top trunk rack?
I believe its a Kury rack, came with the bike.

I'm heading out in the morning for a 10 day or so trip and trying out a brand new Big Bike Parts trunk top rack bag. That trunk lid sure feels heavy with very little weight in it.

So far, unused to-date, it looks like it should do well. The included, tethered rain cover appears to be more durable than most I've seen or used.

I think the most I'd done before on that rack might have been a jacket.  Undecided

TIA.

By the way - New Mexico to Vegas, to Mammoth Lakes, CA to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Then, if all still looks good, off to Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP's. Then back through CO down to NM. Smiley

Just to make your visit worth while, here's a few shots from a recent trip to Colorado to check out Steve Miller and Buddy Guy at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Great show by the way, the encore portion just kept on coming.  cooldude

I got the same bag and rack. I've used my several time and no problems with it. I wouldn't load it down with tools, but clothes and stuff worked great in mine.

We use the exact same bag on our interstate loaded with clothes and toiletries no problem,,, note:  I do have the large space washers at the base of the mounting legs to help spread the weight out.

note2: the rain cover will fit fine as long as you DO NOT expand the side pouches ... if you unzip the side pouch expansion and put stuff in the expanded pouch the rain cover will not fit,,, found this out the hard way   uglystupid2

I just did a 1,215 mile trek with similiar bag on my trunk rack and our bag had to be 25+ easy and I also used the large polished stainless steel washers with the rubber washer from WingStuff.com on the top side of the trunk and also the cheaper chrome star washers on the inside the trunk and I also filled the small gap in-between the layers of trunk lid with a bunch of silicone to help support the inner and outer shells a bit better.
The Kuryakyn rack is nice looking but it was out of my budget. I only gave 99.99 for my rack and bag but the washers inside and out ran about another $24.xx +.

Sorry I am late too the party, hole your trip is COOLER than mine was we had some heat related health problems with one of the women folk with us.

Enjoy and be safe.
