The Victory Demo Ride Trailer was at a local dealership yesterday, so I stopped in to take a look. Now, I have had the Valk for 13 yrs. and have been getting a little "itchy" to move on to something different with the Victory CC being the 1st in line. Lately though, I had decided that the Valk would stay, and any thing else would just be an addition.

Anyway, took care of all the legalize paperwork, climbed on the CC & off we went. The 1st thing that hit me was the monster torque right off idle. I didn't get very far down the road when I realized "this was a real nice motorcycle". One of my requirements in a bike is that it have no vibration to speak of and this one satisfied me in that respect completely. In fact, I think if you could find a flat surface on the engine, you might be able to do the "nickel trick". It really is smooth.

OK, great torque, no vibes, excellent chassis, and adequate suspension. Here's the rub; this bike just didn't fit me. I'm not a tall person by any stretch of the imagination so those forward controls were "way out there". The 1st time I tried to shift gears, I missed the shifter completely, and the first use of the rear brake resulted in me just "stomping on the floorboard". Also, the reach to the grips was a bit long too, but I imagine that could be rectified with different bars or risers.

With the ride behind me, I'm thinking that I really liked the Cross Country, but it just didn't fit. I even rode part of the time with just my toes on the rear edge of the floorboards in order to get closer to the peg position of the Valk.

So there ya have it. I think Victory has a real nice motorcycle in the Cross Country. If it wasn't so "stretched out", I might be bringing one home today, but there's just too much work to do to make it fit.  Sad

Interesting. With my long legs, maybe it would be a good fit (dare I say better fit than the Valk) for me. Nah....I'm keeping the Valk.   Cool

My wife did a Victory demo ride while sitting on the tank so she could reach the controls. The sales people started explaining how the controls can be moved back to make it more comfortable, but she didn't believe it. Oh well. They are nice tall bikes overall.

I didn't think the Cross Country was especially tall. I think the seat height is lower than my Valk. However, the foot controls would have to be moved "at least" 10 inches to the rear to work for me.

You guys must be real short.  My cousin has the Cross Tour and he is 5'10" and it fits him perfectly.  I rode it and I am 5'11" with a 32" inseam and I had no problems what so ever.  I liked it but it did not have the power of the valk, I had to up and down shift too often.

I'm 5'9" with a 29" inseam and the Cross country fit me just fine.  A very comfortable bike.  I wouldn't spend the money to replace my Valk for it, although the Valk is not as comfortable as the Victory to me.

Would I want to replace my two Valkyries with a Victory, test ride or not, NO. Would I want to replace them with an HD, NO. Would add a Goldwing to the stable if I could afford it.
Did I say anything about replacing the Valkyrie? Read the last sentence of the 1st paragraph of my initial post.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I know what ya mean six. GiG and I checked them out in Rapid a few days ago. It fit him well. They looked pretty neat. But Like you, I cant reack the brake/shift peg. They are to inward for me. They need brought outward for me to reach them. My knees hit the tank which makes its hard to turn my feet inward to hit the pegs. Also I found the radio/ etc controls to low on the bars to reach while your hands are in place.

Someone did trade their bumble bee Valk for a CC last week up there.

Possibly I can leave some comments here. I have owned a 2008 Vision for more than two and a half years. Same frame and setup as a Cross Country. I'm 5' 10" with a 27 inch inseam and have no problem with the controls. That's the reason I traded my Valk for the Vision is that I have arthritis in my knees and needed more movement for my legs. The Vision is the most comfortable bike I have ever owned. As far as power, sorry no comparison. My buddy has a 1800 Gold Wing and I can run away and hide from him. Just my two cents worth. BTW, I'm also runnin' Dark Side as well!!

I'm 5'11", 32" inseam and find the Cross Country about as comfortable as they get. Would love to have one but can't see spending that kind of money. Another year or two I suspect some great deals will be available on a used Cross Country. Then I'll look at them again.

In May of this year I bought a new, left over 2009 moto Guzzi Griso. So in there a few leftover 2010's or 2011's in a couple of years I'd love to have one.

I drove one last year. I also liked it but it didn't feel fast and way too much shifting the ride was nice but overdrive was useless.

400 miles on my new CC. As your recall my first one went 24 miles when A lady hit me at a stop sign. The brake and shifter have 3 positions, at 5-11 and 32 inseam I have mine set in the middle, they will go foward 3-4 inches or rearward. They are both adjustable up and down so you do not have to lift your foot to get the brake and you can get your steel toe boot under the shifter. Mine has pipes and the stage one, which is a reprogram and KN air filter. I like the light feel of the bike at slow speeds and how you can throw it around in corners easier than the Valk I traded. With the stage one I can run overdrive at 60 but as it is a torque motor and not running the RPMs the Valk did I am adjusting to where shift points are. I am not missing the power of the Valk, this CC suits me just fine.
