Jani Lane, the flaxen-haired former lead singer for the heavy metal band Warrant who wrote its 1990 hit “Cherry Pie“ and other anthems, was found dead on Thursday in a hotel room near his home in Los Angeles. He was 47.

This bummed me out. Warrant was overall okay, but they had a few really good songs. Ironically the one they're best known for (Cherry Pie) is among their worst. Check out Heaven, Uncle Tom's cabin and Sometimes She Cries for some of their better stuff. It's sad when someone relatively young dies and leaves behind kids.

On a somewhat related note, the wife dragged me out to see Cinderella at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom the other night. As far as 80's hair bands go they were always a cut above most. Despite the poofy hair, makeup and women's clothing the show wound up being really, really good. It's cool to see a band that's been playing together for 25 years.

Saw Warrant New Years Eve of 93.... Was a great night and they played a great show.... Last time I saw em...... Sad

No not at all.

I've actually learned to appreciate this stuff more than I did back then though. Back then I was a fan of the NWOBHM (new wave of British heavy metal) like Iron Maiden and Priest and thrash bands like Megadeth and Metallica. But now I miss the showmanship and effort that went into performing and entertainment. I definitely prefer it to the shoegazing bullshit of the grunge scene that followed it which really was equally disingenuous.

Just did a search today ( Sunday ) to see if they found out how or what killed him...He was born John Kennedy Oswald, February 1, 1964 – August 11, 2011.....That's twisted  crazy2
