I posted my latest on Friday. Post your's here.

Another near miss involving my son's girlfriend. They were on the way to Dothan from Ozark on US 231 and still in town with a 45 speed limit. My son rides behind her. She is a new sport bike rider and he tries to look after her. He spotted bue lights coming up fast from behind and moved over to the right. She was slower as she is less agile and the Dale County officer blew by her before she even cleared the lane and him in excess of 80 mph. He missed her by only a couple inches from what James could tell. He was right behind her but in the right lane. It scared her so bad that she started shaking and crying and almost lost control. He motioned for her to stay behind and he took off after the idiot deputy. He chased him at over 120 mph as the deputy was weaving in and out of traffic. He finally got beside him and blew his new Stabel and flipped him the bird. The deputy shrugged his shoulders as if nothing happened. James slowed back down and waited for Connie. On up the road he saw the deputy on the side of the road. The call got cancelled. Stupid deputy. I wouldn't want their job at any salary but those that do should remember that they are there to protect and serve. Putting others at risk to make isn't worth it.

I had a near miss this morning on the way home from church. Left the parking lot on my Valk and came over the hill to come home thru the park. Some airhead teeniebopper girl, on the cell phone comes up on me  from the rear and I guess she never seen me cause at the last second she jerks out around me and passes me. Speed limit is 15 and I am putting along. She gets around me and runs the red light at the intersection and never looks back! Jeeeez!!!

local paper says 2 motorcycle riders died near my home yesterday. One on a long tight left turn you would think was only dangerous going the other direction as those metal highway dividers will slice you in 2 pieces.  Fellow lost his leg there a month or so ago.

Today was one of those days I rode the speed limit +5 and all day people were makin lefts and rights in front of me without stopping for the stop signs, but a good distance off

Only hit the air horn a few times as a warning and never in anger.  A rare day indeed.

Glad your girlfriend is ok stormrider and brian hope you feel the joy of riding real soon again

I'd take a moment to rethink your analysis after a little time to cool off.  Were I the deputy there would be a ticket issued to someone chasing a law officer "weaving in and out of traffic" at 120 mph.  Mathematically, how fast must one travel to catch and pace a vehicle moving 120 mph after waiting long enough to see that one's girlfriend is shaking and crying?  Are the protective instincts correct to decide it is more important to chase down and flip off an LEO rather than staying with a girlfriend who seems to be in poor shape to control a moving motorcycle?  I wonder what was the canceled call in response to?  How do we know whether or not it was "worth it"?  Under the influence of a sobbing girlfriend and heightened protective emotions, I tend to question the accuracy of the memories.

I'd be more careful with the application of the "idiots" and the "stupids" because it sounds to me like there was plenty to go around.  Perhaps an "immature" would also be in order.

That's my $.02 worth.

YMMV   Shocked

Me with the missus on back of my tourer, 2 lane blacktop, 60mph or so.  Bright sunny day, a fat doe jumped out about 50 ft in front of me.  I grabbed the brakes hard, lucky for us the deer didn't stop and I just cleared her rear end, still doing probly 40mph.  Coulda patted he fat ass with my right hand if I didn't have the front brake grabbed.  My wife never saw the beast, and asked my why I hit the brakes so hard!! I don't think she believed me when I told her.   Here's A pick I took of her that day, at the nest stop.   cooldude Hoser

There is plenty of stupid to go around these days. I would have stopped to check her out then called it in. We've had lots of stupid to happen around here lately. Seems like a virus.

A few years back I nearly clipped a guy on a motorcycle.(I was in my car) It was completely my fault but he was able to switch lanes in time. Being a rider myself just added to my sickened feeling I felt. After a couple of blocks we come to a red light and I yelled to him that I was sorry about that and he just nodded. There have been times when I have been on my bike and had to lockup my brakes because someone pulled out or stopped suddenly and once I even hit a 4X4 on I-12 at 70mph, but never have I felt that feeling of dread as when I was the one that nearly caused it. Undecided

You said it. Not long ago I was coming back from lunch, had to cross a busy divided hiway.

I made it to the center, looked both ways, was about to nail it to get to the other
side. I have a habit of looking more than once. When I looked again, a motorcycle
appeared from behind one of my window posts.

Bleggh... what an awful feeling it would be to hit a biker...

Today is pretty and I had a camera and a little free time so I headed out to pose the bike a bit and snap her photo. I do love a good bike pic with a nice background. I decided I needed a few more in the file.

In High Shoals NC is an older bridge beside of where the road currently runs. They took up the pavement to the old bridge and put up half a baracade. I seem to remember a 'no fishing' sign at one point, but it is long gone and is a great place to fish. I've always wanted my bike's pic on that old bridge. So I decided today was the day.

I slipped off the road on what might have been a driveway at one point, navigated some ruts and holes in the dirt fairly well. But as I eased the bike up onto the old asphalt of the bridge I gave it a little to much gas, the rear end slipped on the dew damp grass, and she shimmied nearly dropping me onto the half gaurd rail baracade in front of the bridge.

Luckily I was able to grab her and calm her down.

On the way off the bridge I was very careful of the damp grass.

Shady spots are still slippery when wet.

Not the most dramatic or interesting near miss, but I suppose it falls into the category.

I'll admit some of my near misses have been my fault, poor judgements have happened at times.

Many many other times the near misses have involved a cell phone (not my using it).
So for all the cellphone near misses I dedicate a photo taken by my wife that I was playing with earlier.

Two near misses by Connie, my eldest's girlfriend. She and James both, on the way to Cheaha had a dopped up looking gansta pull out right in front of them right after I had riden by blowing my Stabel. He was at a side street, slowly came to a questionable stop then proceeded to pull out in their lane. Quick manuvering on their part saved some serious rashes.
Yesterday, on the way to the house, she started braking coming up to a railroad crossing then red light. The fronts were gone, she locked up the rear, slid into the intersection, looking both ways, saw it was clear, then gassed it on out of the way. Fortunate for her the driver at the light, his had turned green, saw waht was happening and waited on her.

Flushed the brake lines with new fluid and all is well. She bought the bike used "in excellant condition, like new" to later find out it had been salvaged.

Coming home from Daytona a few weeks ago on US 92, a few miles out decided to stop and fill up. I am in the right hand lane
Turn signal on and slowing down to turn right into the station, when some idiot on a chopper decides to pass on my right side.
Thank fully I saw the jerk in the mirror and swerved left. If I had continued my turn, he would have nailed me. I guessed his speed at
80 mph, would have been real bad. It was hard to resist chasing him down, and kicking his dumb ass.
