Stopped in at the Sturgis HD  dealer a couple years ago to pick up some windshield screws that fell out my buddy's ultra on our way up, and a t shirt.  They had them but only two bikes on the floor, nobody dissed me for stopping in on my Valk.  Hoser.  cooldude

Wow, my first day on the "Boards" and I love it already!! Y'all get some lively exchanges going here. This is going to be great cooldude I just bought my first Valkyrie, 99 I/S, have owned many bikes, 98 'Wing, CB 750, CF 900, etc, but never a Harley. I'm a retired Fireman and all the guys I worked with rode Harleys..I mean all of them. It was the thing to do, at least they thought it was. Sometimes you take a step outside though and do something unique, ride something most others don't. Have to explain what it is and what those big chrome things sticking out of the sides are. No one does that with a Harley and that's why I never owned one. I'm so proud to own a piece of history, I will cherish it, take great care of it and keep it for as long as I can hold it up, then Trike it!! I am honored to be on these boards with all you guys. By the way, my name is Jeff, I live in Apopka, FL (near Orlando) and I look forward to reading these boards...a lot!

Wow! Times have changed since y2k. I was told the exact same thing at Sturgis HD that I was told at Rapid city HD when I asked for Head gskts and base gskt. "Look, We have Chrome and we have leather, there are 200 people behind you ready to pay" .  Neither parts counter dude even looked in the computer to see if parts were available. Maybe Sturgis H.D. had already sold both bikes by the time I got there. I have had very similar treatment at the local Harley dealer. I walked in with cash in my pocket and had a sales lady tell me "That would be THOUSANDS of dollars" and walked away with her nose in the air.

I for one hope that day is averted by changing our government.  We are most certainely loosing so many freedoms, and one freedom that is in jeopardy is the freedom of motorcycling on a machine built the way you like

I gotcha!  Do it any way you want, and screw the common good, screw the community to which you belong.  Is that what you are saying?

The world is evermore complex.  We live with our neighbors in evermore complex situations.  Straight pipes no longer cut it.  A motorcycle that puts out 20 to 30 times the emissions of a modern automobile no longer cuts it.

It's life.  The world is finite and becoming more so everyday.

PS:  It's 'losing', not 'loosing'.

So....

You're saying that Harleys put out 20-30 times more emissions than modern cars??? I wonder what kind of emissions that a 8-900 lb. bike with 6 carbs that only gets about 30 mpg puts out...

Careful what you wish for..

Well, according to sandy in this same thread, the Valkyrie puts out 10 times the emissions as a wing, which is probably close to, if not higher than, most modern cars.

Well, I guess I should ditch mine for the common good, then.
