I seem to remember reading some statistics, a few years ago, that there are two spikes in motorcycle crashes by experience. One at two years (most crashes.) and one at five years. (most fatalities.)
Has anybody else seen these or similar stats? If so, what was the source?

Those of us that died at five years won't be able to get back with you on that, Bigguy.   Sad

No, I haven't heard that, but it would be interesting to hear what the experts think about it.

I did say interesting.  I avoided saying informative.   Grin

Iirc from my MSF classes the first most dangerous time is the first six months, whether you just started riding or you have a new to you motorcycle.  The second most dangerous time is 2 years because most riders think they know or have experienced it all.

That sounds closer to what I was told in ERC (Experienced Rider Class).  We had a rash of bad motorcycle accidents in St. Louis during the summer of 1998.  It was generally blamed on new riders riding their motorcycle (commonly a Harley) drunk.  The general consensus was that many of these riders wanted to be like Arnold in T2, and thought it would be "cool" to ride a few miles to the local biker bar, and have a few beers.  I saw my fair share of these accidents, mostly near Defiance, MO.  There are two bars that are packed on nice weekends, and it was not uncommon for someone to crash on the way home.
