Dad taught me never to spend coins and only spend paper money.  At the end of the month, you'll have about $25 - $30 in the jar.  Well after more than a few years, I had $2,600 in the water cooler jug I swiped from behind the supermarket  Wink .  Was gonna use that to find an 1100 Shadow stablemate but, as with gold, the prices for these gems are on the rise and I really couldn't justify two mc's right now anyway.  So, in the last couple weeks, I picked up an Apple Macbook for me and one for my daughter who's birthday was this past Saturday.  I even finally got a new cell phone (my first smart phone).

The penny is the only coin I don't bother with because it's just not worth the hassle of rolling and carrying to the bank.  I usually just put the pennies I receive in change in the little container at the register for the next guy to use.

Yep, I've done that for years. Usually cash in every couple of years to take a nice vacation. Normally about $200 - $250 a year has been average. When I lived in MN and did Wells Fargo they wouldn't take wrapped coins. Bring 'em loose and their machine does the count and package. Haven't checked with my small town bank yet on their policy. Nice way to save a few $$$ without even realizing you're doing it. cooldude

Get another water cooler jug just for those pennies and let me know when it's full and I will come get it.    Grin    Around here there are coin machines where you dump some coins in, it counts and spits out a voucher to take to the register.   It costs 8 cents on the dollar..... and not a bad idea if you don't want to spend time/effort rolling the coins up.

I think that is ridiculous!  8% to COUNT the change.  You can borrow money for a YEAR cheaper than that.

Now... I am not saying YOU shouldn't do it... but you know... if you have ANY amount of change, you could BUY a change counter and be money ahead in NO time.

$208 on that $2600 the OP talked about!

Thanks... I'll count mine.
