I think (may be dreaming) that it used to be the case that when I mispeled a wurd while making a post, the wurd would be automatically underlined. It certainly ain't working now. I've got Centos 6.0 and Firefox 3.6.9, obviously haven't been using that for long, thought maybe I used to have some firefox plugin that was doing the spell-check for me, but I just looked and don't see anything that rings a bell... I looked around at my vrcc profile, but don't see any spell-checker option there...
Am I dreaming?
Is the spell-checker down at the plush, well-lit VRCC offices broken?
Something else?

My FireFox has an included spell checker. When I'm using IE I'm totally on my own.
I just updated my Firefox. When I get home I'll need to check that the checker is still there.

For Internet Explorer you might want to use "iSpell" which is a free add-on to IE.

An option for Firefox(besides the builtin spell checker) is After the Deadline: http://atdfirefox.wordpress.com/The message board does not have a built in spell check. -Scott

Running the latest version of Firefox, and it has an automatic spell checker. Pull down the tools menu, then options, then select the advanced tab. Then make sure check spelling as I type is checked.

I'm using the latest version of FF and it's there. Wanna really mess with a coworker? Wait for them to get up from their desk in the middle of a document then go over and click "add to dictionary" on all the improperly spelled words.

OK, that's it, I think... It was probably firefox that I remember helping me, and its spellchecker is built-in, that's why I didn't see anything familiar when I looked for add-ons... Anywho... I have "check my spelling as I type" clicked in preferences, but it's not doing it. I just googled it some, I think centos 6.0 ships without a dictionary, other centos users are saying the same thing as me... I'll go work on it from that angle... -Mike

Yahoo! They is underlined! Now all I need is a grammar checker Apparently it's not working on my reader. They're not lined under here.
Maybe you could get your grammar to check your spelling.
On a related note, I've been reading our board for so long that sometimes when I see words spelled correctly they look wrong.

Spell checkers??.....we don't NEED no stinking spell checkers!!.......... ...... I wonder sometimes how much some of y'all have been drinking when you post??.... If I spell something wrong, it's usually because I'm in too big of a hurry to proof read before I post......

[Wanna really mess with a coworker? Wait for them to get up from their desk in the middle of a document then go over and click "add to dictionary" on all the improperly spelled words. You could switch their software default language from American English to British English which is just different enough to confuse them but not enough that they notice for a while.

That's an idea worth filing. A better prank, go to the auto correct or quick correct in the word processor have a common work automatically changed to another. Example: change "the" to "that damn"
