I'm running a CT on my Wing but a MT on my Valk, for now. The Wing pulls a trailer and I wore the MT off that thing in a flash. What does the GWRRA say about pulling a trailer? Lots of their members do that non-sanctioned activity as well. As for the danger of CTs - there are enough CT users out there by now that we shouldn't need to see "displays" at a rally to try and convince us to pay the big money for crap tires. There should be numerous deaths as a result of CT failure that they could show gruesome pics of and say, "This could happen to you!" But there aren't. I've watched the Wing, Valk and Darksiders Forums for threads of CT use gone bad. Got to look hard for a failure and never seen a single account of a CT blowing off a rim in a wild corner. Proof is in the pudding.
Easy to understand a driver deciding to go back to a MT after trying a CT. They are 'different'. Not a good or bad different. Just different. To each his own.
As for the engineers putting all that effort and investment into developing tires bikers can have confidence in - the proof, again, is in the pudding. Find a MT on a Valk or Wing that doesn't 'cup' long before the tread wears down. That's the best they can do? I've been riding since '75 and tires now have not shown any improvement as far as mileage or deformities forming are concerned. I'm not impressed by their efforts. As a matter of fact, I would wager the oil companies are behind that scam as well.
I, for one, am not drinking deeply of that Kool-aid. I think I must have ancestors that come from Missouri because, until they can show me real world proof of their claims, not some lame cut-away, I'm riding what I good and well please.

Well I run a car tire, and I'm not worried about flaming death. You must be running that "quick disconnect" fuel line thingy... I believe that is an actual picture of the dreaded "Hydro unlock"

At VOAI ride in a couple years back, Clint had a screw in his CT. Had a DEVIL of a time reaming and getting the strands of the plug in there. Actually had to remove a few strands, to get it thru the tire. The next day, a rider had a brand new Avon MC on the rear, with another screw in it. The tool went into the tire like a hot knife thru warm butter. Felt like I was going into a balloon.
Both were right in the middle of the tread.
All I can think of is road hazard. What would happen to each tire if it hit a sharp piece of metal laying in the road? The car tire would probably survive it, the MT would be toast, Possible coming apart.
I would be more concerned about that, than the bead coming off!
Run whichever you want, but these rants about how terrible the CT's are are just plain nuts.
If you prefer MC, great. CT? Fine.

Run the tire you are comfortable with. Like my boy the Nickster said, "but ride it hard!". Thanks MP for bringing some sanity back into this thread. [Shameless plug] Hope to see all of you in TEXAS next April for HotGlue and FB's GOTF! [/Shameless plug] I'll see y'all out on the road. Hay Jimmyt

Was just thinking about about the flaming death thing. All mc accidents around here have mc tires on the back. Thats scary. Glad I have a CT.

Here's something else to think about: HayHauler, 5_19, and I had the extreme pleasure of riding Cherohala, The Dragon, 441, VA 16, and lots of other great roads on the way from TX to InZane X last year. (yes, we all have GPS... ) We also rode about half the BRP, and the portion we rode with 2 Valks gave us the opportunity to see how much contact patch was on the ground as we went from wet to dry pavement in the curves. 2 Valks was on his IS with a motorcycle tire, HayHauler was on his IS with a GYTT 205/60, 5_19 was on his Standard with a Toyo Proxes 205/65, and I was on my "Tourer" with a Continental Vanco 195/65. All three non-motorcycle-specific tires had more rubber on the road than the MC tire did in the turns. We don't light it up like some do, but we do pretty well for flatlanders.

When this post 1st came out, I sent an email to the safety officers at GWRRA div. F asking for a link or copy of their "car tire on motorcycle presentation." So far, I have yet to get a reply.
Who knows, after watching their show, I might get so scared I'll put motorcycle tires on my Saturn.
