I always had moisture problems with my IS OEM trunk, I chalked it up to the rack on the top. While I had the trunk off the IS, I removed and remounted the rack. First rain the other day, and now I seem to have water in the trunk, more than before. Rubbers where all fine.
I don't think it happened while riding, since the rain was light then, but more from sitting in the down pour we had during the day.
Has anyone else had trouble with the stock trunk, and others with the rack on it, and did you find where the water was coming in from?

I have the same problem right now. I haven't been riding in too many down pours, but I definately have water in my trunk lid. I figured it was coming in through the speakers. I'll be watching this thread closely to see the suggestions.

Don't know if it helps, but I have never had any water/moisture in my I/S trunk, with the OEM rack. 3 years & approx 44K miles. I mostly garage or cover the Trike, but it has sat out & been ridden in heavy rain. Stan

Same here, rack and no leaks, have ridden in some frog stranglers and not a drop in the trunk. I would look close at the gap around the trunk, weather stripping can be ok, but if the lid is not closing fully, it is going to leak. speakers would not cause a leak, the base where they attach is outside the weather strip seal.

Well look on the bright side. Whenever you stop, you can open the trunk and wash the dirt off your face and the bugs of your windshield.

Well look on the bright side. Whenever you stop, you can open the trunk and wash the dirt off your face and the bugs of your windshield. Or on those really long rides, you have a nice source of water! Maybe I'll add some sealler around the washers, and the rack, and see if that does something. I don't think it is getting around the trunk seal, since the top acts like a cap over the bottom. If the seal wasn't there, you might have a chance of forced water ingrease, but I was ridding in the city at low speeds. I also park over night in a parking garage, where it's dry. I can't find any water falling from the top.

Had my I/S over a year and 15000 miles. Wash it when it needs it and been caught in some toad drowners. Had a loose gasket on a saddle bag that i glued back and no leak. Look at that rubber flap thing at the front of the trunk by where it hinges and make sure it's not folded up into the gasket. Mine does have the rack on the trunk lid but no H2O inside so far. If you do find a problem some where please post back and let us know if you located the problem. RIDE SAFE.

Stock IS trunk, no rack, 2 days riding in solid rain this summer, no water in the trunk or bags. I wash her a few times a year at the local pressure wand-wash, no water in the trunk or saddlebags. Check the seals for hard spots or tears; flat spots etc. There's no reason to have water get into the trunk or bags. Fred.

The water is not in the bottum of the trunk itself, it is in the inside of the lid. I can hear/feel it sloshing around when I open it. This is why I thought it was coming in from the speakers. I also have a Honda line luggage rack that has been on since I've had it. I'll take a look at the rack mounting holes.

Maybe you need to remove the trunk lid and the rack from the lid and let the water out before you seal the rack again. Also look at the mounting points for the backrest. Could come in there too

Follow up:
I replaced the rubber feet on the outside rack, with new rubber plumbing washers, 3/4", and during a hot day in the sun tightened the washers one more notch.
Had a good downpour/high wind on the weekend, going to the annual PNW Anacortes Oyster Run, and no mositure in the trunk, other than from opening it in the rain.
Another few days outside in the rain at work, and nothing of any note.
Seems the problem was the outside washers. The plumbing ones where like a $3 for 5, so 2 packs allowed me to replace the inside/outside washers.
Problem solved!
