I never really got together a Peach ride this year  Embarrassed  and they'll be done in a few more weeks,
so I left out this morning on back roads up towards "the peach end" of hwy. 11... a couple of
places weren't open when I first passed them by, I went practically to I26 before I found a
farm with an open shed... got a few there, and some more at the other places - they were open
on the return trip... even found someone that still had some corn...

Rode around kind of lost (you're lost if you pass the same place twice, going different directions)
on the way home. Lots of bumpy curvy country back roads. My bike felt terrible... like there was
a blown shock or something...

Dang.

If those are the 440's and you still have your receipt you're good to go. "Life Time Warranty"

A year or so ago one of mine started leaking over the winter. I put a call in for an RA#. I stayed very pleasant over the phone with the rep, praising their products and he said why don't you send 'em both in.

Had them back in 4 days. They cover return shipping and will match your send method. They overnighted them back.

They rebuilt them both, cleaned, load tested the springs and polished 'em too.

Unfortunately, no receipt = no warranty work.
I don't recall their rebuild fees being extravagant either.

Yep, they are progressive. I have the email order-confirmation on them from HDL from 2006 when I got them, hope
that's good enough - we no longer live in a world of cash register receipts  Smiley

My biggest problem is that I have to figure out how to have some ready-to-install shocks in hand by
Thursday afternoon, or I'll miss out on the BRP ride... I have a couple of ideas...

Hey y'all... thanks for the offers... Stanley Steamer lives closest to me... I'm going to talk to
Progressive on Monday, see how long that will take to work out...

Stanley... if I borrow your OEMs, do they have good bushings? I think I saw one new OEM bushing
in my tool box the other day... I'll have to check to see if that's really what it was... I'll call you on
Monday or Tuesday...

If you go this way Mike you might be better off getting these from Steamer as they will be Interstate shocks and mine are Standard....The Interstate is HD compared to the Standard and would work much better on the Tourer IMO.

I just looked in my toolbox, and I've got two #5s... I don't know if I have #3 or #4, the Progressives came with their own
bushings... heck, what's in there is probably good enough... that I can use Stanley's shocks pretty much solves my BRP
problem - thanks cooldude

Dave... it would be a shame to burn a set of gary's bushing on a set of "emergency" shocks  Wink

Ok.....I just looked out in the shop and I have my old shocks in the box the new 412's came in.....the top bushings look good(I'm pretty sure I've changed them at least once).....but I also have 3 new shock bushings and put them in the box with the extra parts already in there...... cooldude

I am not going to be able to go on this BRP ride next weekend after all,.....as I was paying $243 for a new tire Friday(took a day off), the Wife was here at home meeting the Shumate A/C guys...our A/C unit wasn't cooling the house off overnight/early Friday morning......seems a large roach shorted out some kind of capacitor or something in the outside unit..... tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff.....since we have a twice yearly maintenance contract with them, it ONLY cost us $229 for parts/diagnostic fee.....a $79 savings.....she said the guy was here only 30 mins....... Shocked.....I'm in the wrong line of work.... Sad

Anyways......I'd be able to ride over and deliver these things to you today Mike if you'll give me your address.....very least I could do for all the MANY times you've come over here to help me out.....I don't want you to miss out on the BRP ride when we have the stuff to get you back on the road..... cooldude.....

Atta boy, Stanley  cooldude

PS - Every spring I'd get a stinkin pincher bug short out a relay and kill our cooling. Saw where it was when the guy did the 5 minute fix. I have a 10 year parts /labor warranty but they say it won't cover these calls. So know I do the 5 minutes take apart and tap the relay to free the fried bug out.

Today would be better for me........I just have to air up that rear tire.....still got the 2 plugs in it and some Ride-on....it still leaks down if it sits for a while.....checked my maintenance log, and I now have 7,000 miles on that rear Avon...I'll break down and buy a new one soon....it's lasted longer than the Metz rears I've used before......and almost as long as the other Avon's I've used....I think 9,200miles is the most I've ever gotten out of a rear Avon, in fact.....and that one had two plugs/Ride-on in it from it's first 200 miles.....

That's one reason I've done relatively short rides with it......I'd like to see the Marshall Spread......I bet it is much nicer than the house I grew up in....... cooldude

Stanley,

Joe will slap me up side the head for this, But:

I'm getting much better mileage out of E3's than I ever got out of Avons.

I was "cooking" Avons at 6-8k mi, I got 12K out of the E3.

I'm running them front and rear now, the don't grip quite as well as the Avons but I don't have any complaints, and I am known to scrape a peg every now and then, (just not as much as Joe).  Evil

I have just over 7,000 miles on this rear Avon.....and Mike pointed out that I am almost at the wear bar....and the air leaked down about 8-10psi while I visited about 3 hrs with them.....it's time for a new rear tire....I just prefer that they be staggered out some...... Sad

I tried an E3 on the front once.....it was ok, except it was LOUD from day one until it was replaced.....I normally only run Avons on the rear and Metz on the front.....only get 5-6K out of a rear Metz.....and before ANYONE says it, NO....I'm not going to run a car tire...... cooldude Cheesy

The pie was delicious!

Steamer's shocks seem great... I'll ride to work today and tomorrow, and to Maggie Valley
straight from work on Friday afternoon... Thanks Stanley!

After I got them off, it seems both Progressive shocks were kind of blown...
They sent me a RMA number, and accepted my proof-of-purchase - the order
confirmation email from HDL. We'll see how things go on that... The goo that came
out of the shocks was hard to clean off the mufflers after it baked on.

Silly boys, I couldn't take a good picture of Stanley's shock on my bike with the
saddle bags and bag rails installed... they use that bolt too...

They seemed perfectly serviceable on the way to work this morning, I'm looking forward

Glad you are good to go. I picked up a good pair of oem shocks from the bay ($40 shipped) to hold as spares if I need to get my progressives repaired in the future. All this talk of repairing them got me nervous of having the bike down. Shame they were on the bike when acquyired and I don't have a reciept for the free warranty work.  Sad

hoping for fully rebuilt, no charge  cooldude
