REPORTING LIVE FROM CENTRAL VIRGINIA....ok, been watching too much tv.  Don't you love watching those dunderheads standing out on the sand dunes with the waves in the background?  Anyway, winds about 30mph or so, with light rain.  We're on the edge of the rain bands here, so not too bad.  I didn't even bother to clear the deck off...   laugh

Raining for a couple hours now. I am closer to the Delaware River but still on high ground.

All major networks are talking about this storm all day...

It is wait and see...we are supposed to get slammed between midnight and 8am.

Bike is all tucked away...now it is Valk related.

Got my bikes tucked away in the garage too... all the deck stuff is at the sides and chairs upside down... Plants and bird feeders inside, no umbrella... etc.   Praying to the tree Gods to be strong... I don't need that happening again. Shocked

Been raining steady since 2pm, wind is picking up. I swapped the Valk and generator in the garage. Just got a callout to the Woodstown Verizon building ( they took a power hit knocking out the air conditioning). Tornado warning for Atlantic county. Gotta head out for a bit. Then in for the night. WoooHooo.....OT.

I take back the WooooHoooo. I just got back home safe.  It is really cranking up, all white knuckle stuff. It reminds me of driving in a blizzard, white out conditions where the wipers can't go fast enough. The only way to see where you are going is watching the reflectors in the middle of the road....when you can't see them your going thru some big water. They just gave tornado warnings for Salem , Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington counties.
Several more of my Verizon Building just came in with alarms (Blackwood, Elmer, and Woodstown again). Sump pumps are being overwhelmed and power hits. Well overtime is nice but that is BLOOD MONEY tonight. I'm letting it go to a contractor. I am home and dry with an adult beverage. If you THINK you need to be out in this mess....good luck.

drains holding the water back it has been a heavy steady rain but not coming down in buckets

No manhole covers have exploded out of the street from water pressure in the drain/sewer so no tsunami down the road so far so good

The garage is dry except for some water driven under the side of the garage or maybe the water table is now at ground level

edit

walked down into the basement WTF

Water is coming thru the bottom two concrete stairs !!

This happened maybe twice in the 27 years we have been here  I had scraped out a channel along that wall to meet the french drain system on the other 2 walls.  After an hour the water is now flowing around to that drain but lotsa water to clean up now.  Between dead bugs dust and misc crap the water could not flow around to the drain.  That means the water table is as high as it can be without actually rising above ground level and the pressure actually forced the water thru the waterproof cement I applied 15 yrs ago that held all this time

I think I need to rebuild those steps this fall   with a curtain drain behind them to feed into the sump area

Well we are now on generator power since last night 1 am many power lines down like these

looks like the power is going to be out for a couple of days the rain is slowing down and the wind is taking over.
This is the stream in my back yard yesterday it was a trickle and today it's well you can see

just a few limbs around my place but others were not so lucky with damage.

Dang, you fellers ever thought about moving away from the coast.

Looks pretty rough today up thar.

Thats there East Tennesse style.

Nice here, but a lot of people are not gonna wake up this morning because of this storm.

Tragic all the damage that has been wrought.

I guess nothing to do after all that but dig out and fix up.

Good Luck and God Bless all that suffered the wrath of Irene.

Robin that is one impressive stream, hope the power comes on before you run out of gas for the generator

Al, Robin and Judy are in the hills of NJ well away from the coast but southwest of me

Ossining is 40+miles north of battery park and 10 or more north of the Tappan Zee bridge (NYS Thruway 287/87) where it crosses the Hudson River

Just checked my side yard and the hot tub cover was open. Maybe God wanted to add water to the hot tub as it was low, now its just right  I know it was closed yesterday afternoon when I took all the stuff off the pool deck and stored it out of the wind.

I dont think more than several gallons actually has leaked thru those basement steps, but the carpet is soaked its just a trickle now and a sandbag is holding the water back to the drains

Clean up will be fun    tickedoff  but most have it worse than we do  My neighbor has over 6 inches of water in his basement  He doesnt have curtain drains and a sump pump

South of Boston, the rain is mostly over but the wind continues, power is still on and the basement is dry except for the usual seepage, sandbagging the doors has helped. The garage is full of plants, flags, grills, bags of mulch, wheelbarrow, etc. that will all have to be moved, but all in all, we are very lucky here.

Just checking in...we were not hit as hard as they were expecting, spent several hours in the basement waiting out multiple tornado warnings. Which never seemed to materialize here.

Hope everyone else faired just as well.

Be safe out there...if you need to be out there, winds seem to be higher today than yesterday and last night.

Ya Karen... We fared about the same up here in Middleton, Ma.,  near Peabody.   Glad for us and hope others have the same result.

Typical hurricane in New England; all hype. Our winter storms are much worse than these little blows.
