I was excused because my brother is in icu and not doing well. I would like to serve sometime, now just wasn't a good time. Btw I got paid a whopping $6.00 for showing up.

If it's anything like our local system, if you get excused they "generally" put your name on the top of the list for the next go round.....at least that's what happend to my wife.....

Whoa...jury duty....hmmmm. I was called many, many years ago but never actually got into a court room. Parts of me think that it could be very interesting, parts of me says RUN!! No...I would be glad to serve if my time comes again, civic duty and all. Bob & I are wishing your brother all the best in his recovery.

I haven't been called for jury duty in years. I actually enjoyed it...mostly.

I had to testify a number of times over the 30 yrs. I spent as a revenue investigator/auditor. Some were kinda hairy during the time I was on a Task Force at State level working with the Feds. But, a number of local lawyers got to know my face so when I retired and was called for jury duty, most wanted nothing to do with me. They knew how hard nosed I could be at times...at least that's what one atty. said during questioning of jury prospects, then asked me to be excused. My last summons was at age 69 yrs. and 11 months, I didn't get called so when released at the end of the day told the gal behind the counter this was the last time I'd see her. In Florida you can get permanently excused at age 70 if so desired. By that time....I desired.

I got called last February.
Was picked as one of the jurors for the Sen. Jane Orie trial (the first one). 3 weeks of my life I sat in a jury booth on a hard wooden chair, sequestered for the deliberations, only to have the trial declared a mistrail the 2nd day of deliberations due to a doctored signature that "Ray Charles could have seen" (judges words).
Interesting to watch the legal system from that side of the TV.

I've done jury duty twice. First time was a civil case where one lady was suing another for pain and suffering due to an auto accident. All medical costs had already been paid. This was so boring because some of the professional testimony (doctors and chiropractors) had already previously testified, so they just read the transcripts to the jury. I think it went 3 days and we deliberated for all of about 5 mins, took a poll and found in favor of the defendant. The plaintiff was a gym teacher and never missed a days work or even any of her duties/activities due to her "injuries". The 2nd time was alot more interesting. It was a criminal case where a hooker got picked up by an undercover cop and...well...the rest of her night didn't go so good. It was actually a pretty funny story how it all went down, but on the other hand a pretty sad case because this woman, who was obviously pretty poor had a court appointed atty who was apparently very new and just didn't do a very good job defending her. In the end, we found her guilty as well as learning some new vocabulary words used in the "trade" as well as learning that you could get a "half and half" for $40.

Best way to get excussed is to tell the judge, "I can tell if someone's guilty just by looking at em". Works every time
