I injured my back (again) a couple of weeks ago. I'm doing much better now, I can tell because I can walk now.
I took the bike to a seminar over the weekend - 40 miles each way, 2 days. And came to the conclusion that I do not believe that I can safely ride the distance to Cheaha.
I thought about taking my car. Except that moving to depress the clutch sends twinges up my back.
So, it wasn't easy after the local flooding, but I finally located a rental car with cruise control. And automatic transmission, of course. And with a truck, I can haul all my back equipment.
I hope everyone forgives me for caging it, but it was either that, or skip the trip. I'll be the one in a black Dodge Avenger. At least the color matches my bike ...

Can I still ride with you??? It is going to be good sharing the wind with you - try and get your back to where you can at least stick your head out the window every now and then! In a way, that's good - now I don't have to wrap my computer in a plastic garbage bag - If it rains, I will just throw it in the cage with you - if you don't mind. I think the weather is going to be awesome for a Wednesday blast off. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Safe winds getting here sister!!!!!

I'm glad we're not leaving this evening -- right now the driveway is so full of water that if Wizard didn't have the truck out there, he couldn't get back to the house from the barn. We just got hammered with a major thunderstorm. There was lightning nearby on 3 sides of the house -- times like that, I start wishing I had a brick house instead of all wood. Normally weather doesn't bother me, but with all six dogs in the boarding kennel so we can leave tomorrow, it's all just "not right". Hopefully that band that's just passed is the last for tonight.

I think we may be OK.. I deleted it, but I had posted earlier that we may want to think about not riding over tomorrow. This thing sat over you all day but has picked up some speed. Looks like it will be in front of you tomorrow and should be passed when we leave out on Wednesday. It has already got to Lake Charles and the front is over by Jennings now (at 11:20 pm), so it should hit us in a few hours from now and be in front of you tomorrow!
Whoooooooo-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Looks like we may be riding after all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phyllis....you know, we don't care what you ride, drive or fly. We'll be glad to just have you come. again, for me and many others.........it's about the PEOPLE.
you've more than paid your dues riding around this great country! sorry your back has you down....but we'll be glad to see you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and you won't be THE ONLY person coming in a cage. Several others are doing likewise....a little bird has told me. I won't reveal any names....just trust me, you are NOT alone..........

Good news so far is that after spending time in the car driving from home to Lafayette to meet up with Strider, my back is feeling better. It looks like the enforced rest may be what I need most -- while I'm driving I can't be tempted to do things that need doing, or things I want to do, for that matter. No mops, brooms, vacuums, laundry, dogs to walk, bird cages to clean, etc.
I just don't want to mess the back up further and have to skip any of the summer trip ... which starts with heading toward the Blue and Gray ride.
