Shooting Advice:
Law Enforcement carries guns to protect themselves, not to protect you.
Never let someone or thing that threatens you get inside arm’s length and never say "I’ve got a gun". If you feel you need to use deadly force for heaven’s sake let the first sound they hear be the safety clicking off, and they shouldn't have time to hear anything after that if you are doing your job.
'The average response time of a 911 call is over 23 minutes, the response time of a .44 magnum is 1400 feet per second.'
"The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win - and cheat if necessary."
"Remember, incoming fire has the right of way."
"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it, cause it's going to be empty."
"If you're not shooting', you should be loading'. If you're not loading', you should be moving', if you're not moving', someone's going to cut your head off and put it on a stick."
"Do something. It may be wrong, but do something."
"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If you have a gun, what in the hell do you have to be paranoid for?"
"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work, but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language."
"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems.
How long you live depends on how well you do it."
"You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family."

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Law Enforcement carries guns to protect themselves, not to protect you. Whats sad is alot of folks believe they are to protect you. Never let someone or thing that threatens you get inside arm’s length and never say "I’ve got a gun". If you feel you need to use deadly force for heaven’s sake let the first sound they hear be the safety clicking off, and they shouldn't have time to hear anything after that if you are doing your job. I dont use the safety, so they wont hear a thing.

thinking about getting crimson trace grips, can't decide which is more intimidating the lil' red dot or the sound of a pump 12 gauge racking a round went over to the crimson trace website, they have the grips for the XD and the XDM for 209$, thats not bad at all. of course I don't have an XD yet.......

I can't speak to the reaction to the sound of racking a round, but the dancing red dot produced some of the fastest backpedaling I've ever seen. If I hadn't been so pissed at the attempted burglary of a (my) vehicle, I would have had to laugh. It was a moonless night just after midnight, and I surprised the you know what out of him. The visual of the dot on his sternum must have been very persuasive.

Many years ago a friend gave me a laser sight with multiple mounting options. I've never been a fan of using laser sights as real sights (I don't wanna rely on something that has a battery that can fail at the critical moment) so I mounted it on the Mossberg pistol gripped 12-gauge pump I kept by the bed before I had little ones running around the house...
I figured the combination of the tell-tale sound of a 12-gauge pump chambering a round combined with a red dot on their chest would end any confrontation VERY quickly (And if not, it'd be a quick pull of the trigger to fully end the confrontation...)
(And yeah, I'm still well protected, but there's an extra step that I've practiced many times to get to the weapon now with kids running around the house...)

It's better to bring a gun to a knife fight than the other way round. Fred.

That's not bad at all, Earlier this year I purchased an XD-45 and they were close to $300.00 at that time. Time for me to take a second look There are other companies making laser grips and upper frame mounted lasers for less than half the price of CrimsonTrace. (not the bulky rail mounted types) I purchased a Laserlight brand wich mounts on the upper frame and is barely noticeable for my Ruger LCP. Good thing is, this does not require any special holster. $99.00 For those who may be interested, this is very cool http://www.laserlyte.com/
