Oh here's one that pisses me off; when someone's trying to convey a stretched out word and they repeat the consonant. Example: "Ruuuuuuuuun!" as "Runnnnnnnnn!". Do you realize how silly that would sound?

Ye-yah! Reeaaallllyyyy Sillllyyyyy!!

Not so much a phrase, but total misuse of a word - penultimate. Most think it's even better than ultimate, like the best there ever was!! We even had a book store (you'd think they'd KNOW better!!), owned by Penultimate Enterprises.

Penultimate - 2nd from the bottom - Next to the last.

1. Rock
2. Paper
3. Scissors
4. Hand Grenades

The penultimate object is Scissors.

The Cubs, as of the 7th...

OK, the one that REALLY grates my nerves, EVERY time I hear it, or see it in print, is "I seen". I spent years correcting my children, making sure they spoke "proper English", to improve their lot in life, and then I hear that colloquialism a LOT. Thankfully, they haven't picked it up. I have to bite my tongue to keep from correcting the user.

I criticize not the user, but the usage.

Are you saying we get too worked up about certain words and phrases or is "chill pill" one that bugs you? Because it bugs me!  tickedoff

It needs fixed. Where's the modifier? Past tense in a command. Like thats so yesterday. Duhhhhhh!
I work with the educated beyond their intelligence set and its a hoot to hear a master's degreed person use double negatives. I drive a forklift and Semi and never miss a chance to be a PITA,
in good nature because we have a great relationship and some of them bait me and laugh.
I gotta go take a chill pill and prolly fall out after dat.

Irritating to me is when you pass by someone walking and instead of "Hi", "Good Morning" or just a nod, they say "How are you?" or "How ya doing?"   Cheesy

Obviously a rhetorical question because I know they could give a crap about how I'm doing.

Ah, another one!

Quote
ir·re·gard·less  (r-gärdls)
adv. Nonstandard
Regardless.
[Probably blend of irrespective and regardless.]
Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

Ain't this fun??

heh-heh...
