hey,just got an opportunity to be off 6 days.Want to take a road trip about 300-350 miles that my wife and i can go on from denton texas.I am a CMA member so mena arkansas is one option but i already am going there in october so i need somewhere else,and not have to ride like in dallas or houston or austin type traffic.Give me your good ideas.She has back issues so 6 hours in 1 day is it.Thanks.

If Talimena is off the radar, then the other option for me would be Kerrville and the RR roads there... (But I'd check the fires first, I don't know if they're directly in that area, but could be...)
Other ideas: Go down to San Antonio and stay somewhere on the River Walk.
Corpus Christi and the beach.
Little further out, but Carlsbad Caverns is fun.

Jump over to 281... head south... enjoy the small towns along the way. Just before you get to San Antonio jog over to Bourne along TX 46. Stay... shop... relax... be all Chi Chi. (Bourne is a boutique town... your wife will love it!) Drop through Bandera and cut west through Vanderpool, Leakey and camp wood. Turn south... just past the Frio River, tack southwest toward Del Rio. Lay over... enjoy the border town... eat mexican food... tour the oldest winery in Texas. At dawn, ride US 90 west to Alpine. (AWESOME!) Lay up at the Maverick Inn, The Holland Hotel or the Antelope Lodge. Do day loops down into Big Bend, Stillwell Ranch and FM 170 over to Presido for a few days... wander back... tell stories forever.
If you need details on places to see or stay... I'm your huckleberry. West Texas, east and northern New Mexico and the panhandle I know well...

Might try checking out Eureka Springs in Arkansas. Little north of Mena, but still beautiful riding areas. Probably a little cooler than Texas.
It is rumored to be the site of the next Inzane in 2012.

Wife and I are gonna try to make it up to Taylor Texas saturday to sample some BBQ at a place we saw on Diners,drive-ins and Dives.Muellers is the name of the place.

+1 on us385south. The Texas Hill Country has some of the country's best roads. I'd include a stop in Medina, Tx at THE APPLE STORE. The only place I've ever been that has Apple Soft Serve Ice Cream. Their SPJ Burgers are heaven on a bun too. I've been stationed all around the World and could have retired anywhere, but chose here just for the Hill Country riding!
