I want to put my hoppie fairing back on and don't like the conversion kit from f6. so I'm looking to replace my speedometer & tachometer with a digital combo. Has anyone done this? if so what product did you use? Where did you mount it.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'll do some searching, saw a set of mirrors over the summer that had the speedo, tach and indicators in the mirrors, in the glass. I'll see what i can find....

I didn't think that you could replace a mechanical speedometer and tach with digital guages. Is this possible?

our tachs are electronic, just the speedo is mecanical. Isn't the I.S. speedo electronic? If so maybe go with an I.S. pickup. Back when the electronic speedos first started coming out there were "add-on" sending units/pickups sold also. I'm sure they are still available. Usually all you need is a square wave or sine wave going from 0v to 13v or so and many aux speedos are programmable as to how many pulses to a mile so you can go off various wheel diameters.

In a thread called 'Valkyrie firsts' John Schmidt found this. 'PS: A clue to the next project. Now that I know how to convert the gas tank sender to work with an automotive gauge, I'm "thinking" about installing a single all inclusive gauge. It will be like one for the old Ford Bronco, speedo at the top, smaller tach at the bottom, four smaller gauges around the perimeter. They'll give me temp, oil pressure, fuel, volts...plus the face of the gauge will give me my turn signal lights and hi/lo beam, all mounted in a nice chrome housing. Just thinking...for now!!' http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=780/category_id=636/home_id=-1/mode=prod/prd780.htmFred.

Yeah! That looks a lot like the early ones I remember Inside was a gear, and a Hall-effect sensor simply detected the passing gear teeth, creating a fairly square-wave signal.

Wow. O think that's what I was looking for , refering to the mechanical to electric conversion, and the all in one style gauges.
