Has anyone done this install? The shop manual says that the exhaust system has to be dropped. Is that nessary,or can you get them mounted by raising and lowering the bike on a bike stand?Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

No need to drop the exhaust.  Using the jack/lift will work just fine.

What the others have said ... just had to pull the hard bags and when the lower mount was close ... just used the handle of a screw driver to nudge it just a wee bit.
