The very sad news is that my best friend, Jack a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, of 13 years past this last February.  The good news is that Max, a 15 week old Pembroke Welsh Corgi is now part of the family.  My question is who travels with their best friend and how do you accommodate them on the road.  Max will weigh almost 30 pounds when fully grown.   There are some very expensive passenger seat carriers on the market ( http://www.beastriders.com/ ) which I would go for if they work.  Anybody have experience with this or other means of traveling with your best friend.

Farther: in honor of your enjoyable posts: i have a sidecar as well as a subframe for a valkyrie. if you are interested you can have it. the side care is for a dnepr and all the mods have been done to mount it to your valk, it needs paint DESPERATELY  it is solid other than a quarter sized hole in the bottom of the side car body.  cooldude of course you need to pick it up. or pay for freight shipping. i have over $600 into the mounts plus the original $800 for the side car.

I appreciate your very generious offer but I really don't want a side car.  I will pass for now.

I rode down to CA for a BBQ first of July.  There was a couple who were traveling with aaustralian shepherd.  They were on two Victory bikes.  The wife had a standard dog carrier strapped to the back of her bike.  When it was time to go, the dog would run and jump on the seat into the carrier.  Worked pretty slick.

Here is a pic of it.  I know not good quality.

I have been looking at getting a smaller dog crate (smaller dog) and remove the sissy bar, add the cargo rack with my solo fender rack, it should support the crate pretty good.  I was also thinking of making a aluminum diamond plate base to mount the crate on.

Several years ago, I picked up a dog carrier that was like a backpack except it was in front of me instead of on my back. I used it to carry my Cocker Spaniel (about 25 lbs.), and it had a clip inside to hook to his collar whereas he couldn't jump out. It had a canvas bottom, along with mesh sides, and was open on the top. It worked perfect, and was pretty comfortable too (for both of us). I got it at Petsmart. Don't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't very expensive.

My Max weighs in at 19 lbs. and fits very nicely on the back seat. When the wife rides he sits in front of me on pad on tank, always harnessed!!

Here's a shot of harness, It's attached above and below, He can touch bags and put his feet on backrest.

The chic in the sports bra would hold these 2 in a sling type holder. They ride 90% that way and then have a small carrier on their pull behind mc camper.

Buddy is a 26 lb. Scottie, wearing a harness attached to a bag bottom mount bolt.  His windshield is made from a 5 snap flat helmet face shield

Biker Bud passed a few years ago so this lid is available for purchase.

Very good idea.  You need another Biker Buddy and not get rid of the hard bag lid.

That is fantastic. I just rescued a Jack Russel Terrier yesterday, named her "Minnie" (Minion Smiley) She is almost full grown but young enough that I think I can get her trained to ride safely. If you are certain you aren't getting another riding buddy, I might be interested in that lid. I have a spare snap on visor and have started looking at harnesses.

Feel free to send me an e-mail if you would like to discuss the lid.jason@2jollyrogers.com

I really LIKE your set-up! How/where is the windshield/face shield fastened in the saddlebag?

Quexpress, the windshield was the easiest part.  Once the lid was in place, I simply bent and slipped the shield in place to my liking and then took 4 short sheet metal screws and put them through the shield and into the thick, upper inside of the bag.  The shield stays in place when the lid is opened, or removed.
Of course Buddy always looked around the shield, but it diverted the airflow so he never got anything in his eyes.  (There's no way to get a Scottie to wear goggles)

Buddy just loved riding.  Every time he heard a bike start, he got excited, hoping to come along.....

AWESOME!  You all have inspired me to take my dog on rides.  I really like the saddle bag idea!

Hey Farther , out of five Weiner dogs , I got my little guy , he's a Mini Dachsund named Elvis the Pelvis , he likes to sit on my Valk while I'm warming it up and he has his own blk. helmet and doggels ( goggels )with red racing flames and I have this bag like contraption ( papoose carrier ) that goes around my waist and my shoulders and he sits in the front so I can keep an eye on him ... it has three holes in bottom of the bag for his two legs and one in the middle for his tail and he sits upright against my chest looking straight ahead .... its been too damn hot to take him out anywhere this summer and now that its finally cooling down here in Texas me and my little man will be cruising and checking out the sights ..... there is a fellow here in Texas who rides with the Gypies and has the same set-up on his trailer where his best pal sits and it also has a windshield mounted in front of the cut-out so as not to catch rocks and stuff .... I know how you feel about your Best Buddy , I feel the same way about my little guy " Elvis the Pelvis " ... Thanks the Geezer crazy2

Well, I have found a solution, if not temporary, it works very well.  I am using a 24 qt. dairy crate zip ties to the cargo rack after the sissy bar is removed (I also got my 10 minutes, or is that 10 seconds of fame).  Rosie, my 31 pound Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is attached at three points in the crate and is wearing a Comfort Harness and Dogles, both purchased at Pet Smart.  http://www.siskiyoudaily.com/photos/x1138511319/Siskiyou-Seen?foto=10
