A buddy and I are heading out next Friday for 4-5 days to take a little road trip. We will probably head across southern Ohio into WVA, VA, NC, and TN. Possibly use Skyline Drive and BRP for some or all of southern route. We will either be camping out, staying in cabins, motels, etc. depending on where we are and weather. We want to stay off Interstates as much as possible and travel state highways to see as much as we can. We have no agenda or schedule, just a good time riding. My buddy wants a campfire overlooking a lake or river or stream as many nights as possible. I realize that isn't always possible, but do you guys know of any such places along that route? TIA

Dave,

I have a group heading out next friday from NJ, Pa and De.

We will be running up the BRP and Skyline Saturday afternoon.

We will be staying on Winchester VA Saturday night.

I will keep an eye open for you.

Sorry not much info on camping, but there are a few campgrounds in all those areas, you also want to check in to see if anything along the rivers and lakes are all not washed away this week. We have had some serious wet weather the last week and a half.

Dave,

Otter Creek Campground @ MM 60 on the BRP has a creek running through it with many campsites near the creek.

All campgrounds on the BRP are on a first come first serve basis.

If Otter Creek was full there is a Yogi Bear campground @ Natural Bridge Station not far from the BRP (exit onto SR 130 @ MM 61) it has a lake and you get to cross an awesome mountain on SR 130.

There is also a campground on a small lake @ Montebello, VA (On SR 56 @ BRP MM 27).

If I think of any where else I'll let you know.

Also give me a shout, (I'll PM you my cell #) as long as you're in the neighborhood I'll be glad to share some wind and show you around a bit.

Dave, if it's on your line of travel, Cooper's Rock State park in WVa is a beautiful spot.  No lake, but an amazing overlook.

Thanks for all the help guys, but we have changed our plans.  My buddy doesn't really like very cool weather and I told him it might be 40's up in the mtn. camping overnite.  We are now headed down to Land between the Lakes, KY and on toward western TN.  I will keep all of you in mind for next time I am in your 'hood.
