I had a '66 American Roque my brother gave me when I turned 16. It had a 290 V8 with a quadrajet 4 barrel and a 4 speed manual transmission. It had real stiff springs in the front end, and rode like a brick. It didn't handle worth crap, but I smoked a lot of Cameros and Mustangs.

I found a picture of my first car. (same model and color as this one) 1961 Rambler classic.  Now that's a bit of a coincidence. My first car was a 1962 Rambler Classic.  I always got a kick out of the 'push button' transmission. At night the buttons looked like a Christmas Tree all lit up.

I'll join the Rambler bandwagon. I bought a 67 Ambassador wagon at an insurance auction. It had the 235 inline 6 and was a great car. Rode and steered like a caddie. I was scraping boats (decrapping the sides) at the time and found 100 feet of 3/8" anchor chain on the bottom of San Diego bay. I kinda needed to touch the brakes to help the steering. As for the first car, 52 Packard airport limo.

When I was in Japan (1970 - 71 and 1976 - 77) the most common automobile engine size seemed to be 360cc.
Things may have changed a bit from those days.

Ahhhh, but how many of you still have your first car? Not me. I was more than happy to see my first car pull out of the driveway when I sold it. I remember one Mazda truck fondly that would be nice to have again, but I don't remember enjoying owning it. My first bike I wish I'd kept, but I don't regret selling it to be able to buy the Valk. I think I'd rather have the bikes I've owned again than the cars/trucks. I don't mind seeing the cages go.

Things may have changed a bit from those days. Ah yes!! I had a Suzuki Carry, had an inline 360 two cylinder. Picked it up in a trade - traded a Sunbeam beat up Tiger, that had been in a serious crash, for two Sunbeam Alpines, two Austin Healy Sprites, and the Carry. I had $200 total, in the Tiger, and ran the hell out of it - "Drive it like you stole it!!". The trouble on the Carry was the brake shoes - about an inch wide, and three inches long, if that. It would stop just fine........ONCE!!  Of course, the Honda 600 had the same trouble - almost all of them ended up impaled on the rear of a truck or car.

Do you still have that Cuda? Ahhhh, but how many of you still have your first car? Well at least a major portion of it! This is the car of my youth. Bought in 1970, it was the first car I had titled in my name. I had previously had use of my sisters hand me down 1962 Olds Cutlass with the 215 V8 but when I got out of high school and left home this was my ride. I don't believe any pictures exist of it in it's glory days. I had plans back in the 80's to restore it, then family came along and it has languished ever since.

Wow, '48 (?) Mercury! I think that was one of the first "dream" cars I ever wanted - I wanted a ragtop, though. I had a '37 coupe at the time, but fell in love with the fat fenders, and ornate grill, along with the stainless down the sides. I like the suicide doors on yours! Then, I saw a '55 Crown Vic...  Nah, the '57 Ford Skyliner Retractable...  Love is fickle. So, I settled for my '51 Ford F2 truck. So many cars, so little time! R
