Going to try to finally get my 40' tower up. I looked up antenna grounding, and they say to drive a ground rod AND run a ground to the house ground rod. That is a long way from the antenna tower. like a 100' on the other side of the house.
Really? I have to trench around the entire house to catch the ground rod for the house???
I'd rather be riding (just to make it Valk worthy)  Wink

It's a solid 100' and I'd have to go around my patio. I can't just lay it on the grass, and I cant follow the foundation, I have to cross 26' of patio.
I will if I have to I will. But I'm not looking forward to it.

check your local regulations, they will probably allow you drive two or three copper clad grd rods 12 ft apart. the other option may be to connect to the cold water lines and bond a jumper across the water meter.

We ground from our equipment or out buildings to our radio towers. So they all go up and come down together at the same potential. Look up "Motorola R56" grounding standards, but they may tell you the same thing. When connecting the rods try to get a couple "one shot" exothermic welds from Tessco. They literally weld the cable to the top of the ground rod to reduce the connection resistance to zero. R56 will explain how long the rods need to be and how far apart to pound them down and bond them. I think the one shots we buy are about $5 or so apiece-gov. They are like little roman candles, read standback.

I've been rethinking the project. If I put the tower up next to the new garage I could bolt it down to the existing slab and avoid pouring a footing. It is also easier to get to a service ground. I could connect to the ground in the garage service panel. But it makes for a longer run of coax. Unless I put the modem and wireless router in the garage, and ran a cat 5 to the house to a second wireless router.

It's a 40' aluminum tower with a cell antenna on it that is about 6" X 12". The slab had a metal building on it. the antenna tower would be on top of the footer for the floating slab. It is 12" thick, and the slab is about 19' X 30'
