What oil do you use?

Just changed the oil. went to Walmart to pick up a Super Tech filter and a gallon of Rotella T in the blue jug. Well, they didn't have it in the blue jug. I remember reading somewhere that the white jug was the dino equivalent so I got that instead.

  I've always steered clear of so called "motorcycle oil" because it's just over price oil without the additives. Honda oil especially is over priced. It's more than twice the price of the Rotella T.

So what oil do ya'll use?

I've used Amsoil, Honda, Mobil 1. Now I use Rotella T 5w-40 synthetic and Super Tech filters from Wal-Mart. Works for me and is cheap.

Mobil 1 synthetic oil for Auto's.

If they no have that in stock I grab the Mobil 1 for Diesel engine oil.

I can still get the Rotella T in the blue jug at my local WallyWorlds. Guess I had better buy me up a bunch in case they stop carrying it... Filter used now is the WalMart brand (supertech?) the fatter one ST3593A so I end up slipping a few more ounces of oil in to take up the extra filter space it ain't much but I figure every extra ounce will help keep the big girl cool and freshly lubricated (I know grasping at straws).

They also make a synthetic blend think it's a tan or bronze color jug price in in-between the Dino and the synthetic, just like it's made about 50/50.

I use the shell Rotella oils in my Diesel pickup and to cut cost a little bit I buy 2 gallons Blue jug and 2 gallons white jug and make my own semisynthetic blend it's a bit cheaper this way than buying their blend and use the cheapy Ford/motorcraft filters from Wallmart I think the filters are less than $9.00.

Well hell, I might have screwed up on the oil filter. I assumed the same one that fit a GW also fit the Valk, no?

Funny, a couple years ago I read a filter review and the Wally World Super Techs came in at the top of the pack. They're made by a reputable oil filter company, Champion labs. I just stick with OEM because I get a good deal on em and I know Honda likes them.

I use the Rotella t6 in the Valk with swupertech filters. I use the 15W 40 rotella in the other bikes in the summer. I think the synthetic  is too thin and gives some blow by in my Kaw. during the hot weather. In the fall and early winter I use the T6 synthetic in all the bikes and the diesel pickup.

I switched from Rotella T synthetic to Delo 400 and always use Supertech filters.  The motor runs smoother and there is less tranny clunk with the Delo.  Oil change every 3k.
I converted a friend who used Honda oil in his Venture to Delo.  He can't believe how smooth his gear changes are now.

Been eyeballing the Delo 400 diesel oil myself. Forgot if the Delo was a full synthetic or not.
May try that next change.

Advance Auto runs sales on the filters quite often. Got the last batch of them for 1/2 price.
Also, Amsoil Extreme Gear lube in the rear end....

This has me really thinking..............Today I changed to ROYAL PURPLE 20/50 full synthetic.  I had already changed the diff. to ROYAL PURPLE 75W/140. I will keep you posted on the reults. $9.92 per quart.

Amsoil----10/40 motorcycle oil, I have found that it's the only oil I've used that gives me the smoothest shifts.  Mobil 1 was terrible, hard shifting, couldn't find nutrule, switched back to Amsoil and there really was difference.

I understand that everyone wants a economical way of keeping their bike up but using a diesel engine oil? Synthetic or not just does not work for me. i am sure if we look at it's base ratings it will show that it is compatible and meets the basic criteria so please don't jump on my back. I just think that with any engine oil is it's very life blood. i only use Lucas Oil. in all of my vehicles in all applications. my boat, my truck, my wife's car, and especially my Valkyrie. I use their 10w50 full synthetic. the bike runs cooler, shifts smoother and i know that if i go over my service limits i am protected by a superior quality oil. i change my oil regularly and i always use oem filters. i worked in the motorcycle industry for a number of years and i remember in school we cut filters in half and looked at them. trust me on this one buy OEM! Lucas oil full synthetic 75w140 gear oil in the rear end as well as their Super Coolant additive in the rad. it helps to balance ph and stop corrosion as well as up the performance of the fluid in the rad making the bike run a little bit cooler. On a super hot and humid day in the summer stuck in traffic or waiting for construction! Totally worth it!

I use the same GJ.  I went to Wally first to find it and didn't.  Got it at AutoZone by the quart only, a little over $8/ea.

I wanted Lucas, just could'nt find it. I have used there 20/50 in my hydroplane (fuel injected V4 chevy) and in my wifes Jaguar. I am happy so far with the ROYAL PURPLE. I put 50 miles on her and there is a noticeable difference in the tranny noise..only OEM filter.

call their 1800 # it is on their website. or use the postal code locator on their website for a retailer near you. nothing wrong with Royal Purple but i know Lucas supports so many good causes and their products are very high quality i just go out of my way to support them.

Just turned 99,000 and I've used Amsoil 10-40 from the beginning.  My changes are at 8K intervals, no engine or transmissions issues to date.

I always use Mobil 4T 10/40 racing oil with a Pure One filter,  tranny smooth as silk!  

Mine clunked like hell with the 4t, clunked like hell with Mobil 1 15/50, and clunks like hell with the T6. If I shift below 3k RPMs it'll usually click right in nice and smooth, but what fun is that?

I change my oil at the start of every season, and then during the season after 5K miles.  Just changed over to Mobil 1 15/50 from Honda oil, will see how that does.  As a side note, they now not only give you mileage limits to change your oil, but also date limits (ex: every 3K miles/3 months),  if date was so important, they'd put expiration dates on the oil container.  When I was growing up and working on cars with my aircraft mechanic father EVERY weekend, recommended oil change intervals were much longer as far as mileage was concerned and there were no date limitations.  I can't believe oil has gotten worse in quality since then (40 years ago).  To me, these recommended low mileage change intervals are all about just making $.  The date recommended change interval is simply a lot of Hooie.  So if you change your oil and don't reach your mileage limit in, say 3 months, then you need to change your oil anyway?  Why?  Does oil spoil like milk does????
