This is a pic of me in the Mid 80's on a dirt bike one of my Uncles bought for me to ride.....my parents wouldn't let me have a "motorized" bike....this was back when Evel Knievel was still big......

I laid out of school one day and my Cousin Dennis and I took this bike and his dirt bike and loaded them in his truck and went riding on some old back roads and fire roads....I could pass him on the narrow roads, but he had a bigger bike than this one and would open it up and pass me on the better gravel roads....

We got so muddy, that I elected to throw my pants away that day rather than my Mama finding them....we didn't have a water hose for me to wash them out with..... Cheesy

We ended up at his house at the end of the day, but not before his Mother called us to tell us that the "Law" was looking for two kids riding dirt bikes on the main roads near his house.....he told her it wasn't us.... Cheesy.....I was about a mile from his house doing about 50 mph when the chain came off the sprocket of this bike and locked the back wheel down.....I left a pretty long skid mark, but didn't crash it....he went home and brought his truck back and we loaded it on it to get it back to his house to fix it.... cooldude

My Mama made my Uncle get rid of it before I killed myself on it.... Sad.....that was my first and last bike as a youngster........ Sad Sad Sad

Steamer remind me to slap you the next time that I see you  Evil

It has taken awhile but I've finally ID the bike as a Yamaha DT.

The year I'm not sure of.

It seems that they kept changing the exhaust back and forth from year to year.

This one is a 1981, I can't find PICs of any yellow ones.

Here's a pretty good video of a 1980 model:

I was about 16 in that pic.....which would have been 1986.....the bike was older than that....late 70"s??...early 80's?..... Undecided

OK I finally figured it out.

It is a '77:

And "Ginger" say's that you can't post any more questions like this.  Evil

It would seem that the exhaust thing isn't a model year issue but rather a different model of the DT:
