speaker upgrade for valkyrie interstate

has anyone ever upgraded the speakers on their Valkyrie Interstate? if so what brand was used and what if any modifications were made? my stereo is drowned out at speeds over 75km/hr and if i turn it up more that say 25 it breaks up and distorts quite badly.

Polk Audio db501 for front and rear.

Only because I know how to find it quickly, search for "Multipoint" I did the fronts on my maintenance and upgrade thread. There are better threads than mine I just can't remember the exact topic the are listed as. Others will chime in with those hopefully.

I installed a 400watt 4 channel amplifier and the Polk audio speakers front and rear stereo is plenty loud up to 125mph indicated on speedo at 22 on the volume. You can hear that level about 300-400 feet away (that's as far away as I wanted to walk) with the bike just idling.

JM replacement speakers for 1800 goldwing direct bolt in. Good upgrade for about fifty bucks a pair. Wingstuff had them cheaper than HDL, but HDL matched prices with them.

Brand was Pyle from their marine series, let me see if I can find the exact model.
There are links from my Multipoint thread to my Photobucket album of all of my work almost 1,000 pictures and videos. I do have the work done to the front speakers there and also the Amp model and installation although amp installation pictured are limited I was very frustrated at that point with a dozen things so I didn't get many good pictures. If you can't find my thread or the info your looking for there let me know and I can dig deeper for you I am in my iPhone and running late to pick my son from school. I will check back later.

I am also looking for just a bit more punch from my system and do not want to mess with amplifiers or different radio's.  Can these speakers be installed without any changes to the current Interstate radio?  Did they improve the quality of sound and or add any volume.

Yes you can add them without any system modifications but your gonna have to modify either the speaker or the mounting of said speakers. Sound quality will be improved with these speakers but sound quality is somewhat subjective isn't it. Louder not really you can just turn the volume up higher before the sound from the speakers distort beyond your pleasure threshold. You do NOT have to install an amplifier for this upgrade of speakers.

The db401 and the db501 are the EXACT dimensions, and they will both fit in eather location. The ONLY difference is the db501 has a 10hz lower response range,,, tiny amount better bass/low frequency handling capabillities. They are about the same price maybe $5-$8 more for the db501 so do yourself a favor and buy the db501's.

Somewhere on this board is a very good play by play with pictures on how to install the Polks..... I used it to install mine, but I cant remember where it is posted and cannot find it..... Using it, I completed the job in less than 2 hours for all 4 speakers.... Minus the time spent getting the loose brass nut/mounts out of the fairing and JB welding them back in.... Be prepared to do that....

I am new to the Valkyrie Forums here, and a new Valkyrie owner/rider ('99 Valkyrie Interstate, GL1500CF, 75,000 miles). I have the annoying fairing brass nuts problem, only it expresses itself a little differently: the fairing just separates at higher speeds/winds. I can snap it back together, and it'll be good for another 100-200 miles or so.

At any rate, I've been wondering what the repair procedure for this was, and saw a few references to fixing them, but no real procedure. It seems as if it's just a matter of pulling the loose ones out (carefully, I presume!  ), slathering it up with either epoxy (any particular type/brand?) or JB Weld, and stuffing it back in. Is there any need to make sure that the nut doesn't fill w/glue? Maybe that's just a matter of leaving the screw in the nut?

Can anyone tell me how many miles I can expect on the clutch? I have a '97 Magna, and I had to replace the clutch around 25,000 miles.

wax the screws before you install them it helps break them loose after the epoxy hardens. i'm changing my damper disk (broken rivets) tomorrow but the friction disks look fine 346,000 miles

WOW!!!   I have had three third generation Magna's and sold the first 2 with over 80K each and they still had the original clutch.  My current 2001 Magna has 49K and the clutch is fine and I push the bike hard.  I do not use synthetic oils because the one time I did in a Magna I felt the clutch slip when accelerating hard in second gear.  I went back to conventional Honda 20-50 oil and no more slippy clutch.

Thanks for the perspective, Cruzen. Now that I think about it, my Magna has had two previous owners, and it has a salvage title from when it was crashed into a rear end of a car. So I don't really know what the mileage is. 

So, with 75K on my Valkyrie, I should get how many more miles on the clutch? Life of the bike?
