I pulled up to McDonalds and saw my left signal was still blinking (in the refection off the window), so I cancelled it. The right running light went out, the left stayed on. I signalled right, it blinked and the left stayed on. When I cancelled, the left running light went out but the right stayed on. Rear signals work as normal.

or loose wire to a ground, or high resistance connection. Check all the green grounds and connections in the headlight and right side cover. Turn signals are orange and blue under the side cover.

99 IS. I think I'd rather keep it than dig around in the faring. I'll check wiring and bulbs next weekend. Was just hoping you folks had run into this before. Fred.

After studying the wiring schematics for the bike, I might know what is wrong. The turn signal switch is actually two switches. When you signal left, one section of the switch sends the signal from the flasher unit to one winding in the left turn signal/running light bulb. The second portion of the switch removes 12 volts from the running light portion of the left bulb. When you cancel the left turn signal, the first section of the switch removes the signal from the flasher and the second section restores 12 volts to the running light portion of the left bulb. If the second part of the switch goes too far, it will remove the 12 volts from the right bulb and the running light goes out. Sounds like the second portion of the turn signal switch is not working properly. The contacts might need to be cleaned. After canceling the left turn signal, try moving the turn signal switch back a little to the left and see if the right side running light comes back on. Valkyrie Wiring Schematics are at: http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/schematics/index.htmlSheet with the turn signal switch is sheet 2 (S2) for both the Standard/Tourer and the Interstate. It's worth a shot.

Switch is where I'd look too, but now for the root cause analysis: It's obvious the bike's not ridden enough to keep the contacts clean. You should sell it. I know a guy looking for one.

I spray radio shack "tuner cleaner/lubricator"? (not sure if that's the exact name) into the switches with the included straw whenever they feel a little notchy or rough. Has been working for me for years. It won't replace starter button maintenance but it's all I've needed to do with my turn signal switch.

You didn't mention how you where cancelling the signal. Do you turn it off, or push the switch in?
My my ACE Tourer, the switch would not cancel one side by pushing, and I always needed to turn it off.
I opened it up, and sprayed silicon lubrication on it, and it hasn't come back as a problem.
But it does sound more like the above suggestion of a faulty switch.

Jus push in to cancel. If I push it in the oposite direction a bit, the running light comes back on, so a good cleaning should be enough. Fred.

I sure wish I could look at a wiring diagram and figure something like that out. I have enough trouble just trying to see what color wire does what...

Hey, If I don't have a blinker on and push the switch straight in, both lights go out until I let the switch out. I kind of like it like that. I signal my buddy that I'm ready to go.
