Work sucks _Let's ride

West Virgina

« on: September 27, 2011, 04:08:58 PM »

I have a new customer on my Matco tool route that owns the above mentioned bike with 17,000 miles . Claims to be in real nice garage kept condition , say's that for $200-$300 it would be perfect .
Thing is he lost a job and was a few weeks before finding another and put the bike in pawn . I went to the pawn shop today to try to get a look at it , but the pawn shop hardass would even let me peek , all he said is that he would be a fool to show me the bike and let me buy it from the owner . ....Guess he is right .

I am guessing that the pawn shop would not have put anymore that 1/3 the value into it , and it needs to be picked up by the 5th or it belongs to them . I will give the guy a couple of months to pay me for the bike when I get it and if he is still struggling....guess I will have a CB900 for sale .  Says it is a silver that has a purple tint to it in the sun , also said that he is second owner....the first was in Vegas in 1981 and the bike was displayed on top of a slot machine when he hit the right spin and won it.......kinda a cool story I thought.
Anyone know much about these bikes ,  CB900 with an extra sprocket mounted on it to make it a 10 speed ??  said it was called a "mountian cruiser " ????

I'd be surprised if the pawn ticket's more than $500   Undecided.  I'd buy it.  Keep my name if you end up selling it  cooldude

I do believe the bike you are talking about is shaft drive. It has a 2 speed transfer unit in the drive train.

I had one in 1982, a great riding bike, went from it to a 1200 GW
You would be doing the guy a great favor to keep it out of the pawn brokers hand.
GO for it.

I bought one new in 1980, first year out.  Put 125K on it, and loved every mile!  The air shocks were pretty cool, and the 3 disc brakes were great!  I was looking for another when I got "Valked"!  ;-)

I've always thought that those were good looking bikes.

How are you and Deb doing ?

Thinking about a Skyline Drive ride probably Oct 22nd if you're interested.

Sounds like this may be a 900F if the color thing in right ,  the thing with the owner was at least if I got it he knew that the bike would have a good home ,weather I kept it or sold it to someone that  would treat her good.

The 900F doesn't have a 2 speed gear box like the 900C.  I had an 81 for a year before I bought the valk.  I passed it onto Squealy.  He put about 25K on it.  That one was always a bit of an oil leaker.  just enough to annoy.

Weak electrical system, but there are fixes. Tall.  85 HP.  It'll get it.  It was a HD smoker too.  Light compared to the Valk, and VERY nimble.  When I was teaching Squealy to ride... we were 2-up in the parking lot and I was doing figure 8's in 2 parking spaces showing off.  It felt like a moped after riding the Valk for a couple weeks.

That's CHEAP though.  The nicer ones are going for about $1500 still.

Get the pawn ticket and some cash and go pay it off. That'll get you a peek. Smiley

I still have mine  Wink a 1981 CB900 Custom purchased in 1982
I have always enjoyed this bike for something a little different and it does feel small now that I have been riding the Valk for 10 plus years  uglystupid2

In all the years I have had it only experienced 1 major issue with the cam chain tensioner, other than that it's been a great bike - still enjoy riding it once in awhile  Roll Eyes
