A man who tried to rob a McDonald's restaurant in Surrey, B.C., was fried with a litre of boiling cooking oil, RCMP said. (Mike Laanela/CBC)
A man who attempted to rob a McDonald's restaurant in Surrey, B.C., didn't get fries with his order, but he did get fried when a worker doused him with a litre of boiling cooking oil.
Police said just before midnight Wednesday, the man walked up to the drive-thru window of the restaurant at 96th Avenue and 160th Street.
With his face partially covered by his shirt, the man pulled a knife and ordered the cashier to hand over some money. He then reached in through the window with his arms and head to grab money from the cash register.
When the cashier started yelling, it prompted a fellow worker to act, said Sgt. Roger Morrow of the Surrey RCMP.
"One of the other staffers ... in the restaurant grabbed some kind of a container ... I don't have the specifics to what type, and ends up throwing what we estimate to be about a litre of boiling oil onto the robber's face, his head and neck," said Morrow.
The man then fled, leaving most, but not all of the cash behind. It's thought he may have suffered second-degree burns. Police are now looking for a South Asian male, about six feet tall, 20 to 25 years old, with burns on his hands, neck and face.
Hopefully they don't charge the worker with assault.............

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.

Hoser, Unfortunately your probably correct. They will view that as a liability, against company policy and will terminate him to look like they swiftly dealt with their problem when the lawsuit rolls in. I'm sure it will and be a big one, everyone knows that McDonald's has DEEP pockets!

I do wonder what their corporate policy is about robberies. They probably have a policy about non-resistance. Most large companies do so that they can't be sued when someone dies being a hero. Oddly enough a lot of the major retailers have policies that prevent any non-security person from stopping shop lifting. Which makes it shop-lifting season in some stores. Doesn't make sense, until you think about the families suing because a minimum wage employee was hurt/killed confronting a robbery. Juries would side with the victims to readily.

I believe that it is a law now in BC that all gas pumps are either prepay or preapproved credit. This law was the direct result of a young worker getting killed in a gas and dash a few years back - the kid got run over while trying to recover a few dollars for his employer. His family campaigned for it and eventually it was made law.

S.O. was at Wally World the other day and while she was shopping noticed a lady stuffing her (go green) bag with electric tooth brushes and something else? She was going to ask her You are paying for that right? but didn't. She thought she should tell someone and she approached a manager? Told what she had seen and he told her there is nothing we can do about it. Store policy says unless security sees it, it didn't happen. She said look your door checker is stoppingl her, But let her pass on by. Manager said Unfortunately the thieves know the policy as well. What the Lawyers has done to us just defies common sense!

Back in my LEO days one of the more infuriating case I handled was a 7/11 clerk had been robbed REPEATEDLY by the same individual. This time we caught the guy and she positively I.D.'d him.
The next day I went into the store I learned that she had been fired for having the guy arrested, and all charges had been dropped against him.
She was a single Mom and struggling to make ends meet.
There is something seriously wrong with Cooperate America

Who says McDonald’s food is bad for you? That grease fat probably saved someone’s life!!
My parents had a gas station and I would work from 6am to 10pm everyday, so to make it easier for myself I put a cott in the back office and slept there at night. One night some kids were coming in through the back window, I grabbed my 22 cal. Pistol and stopped them before they could get in, later the next day I talked to the DA and told him that I should have fired a round out just to scare the crap out of them. He told me that if I would have done that I would be in jail for attempting to cause bodily harm to a fleeing person. The police later caught the two guys, one of them had a 44 mag. That they were caring just incase they needed it. A 22 isn’t much of a gun, but it saved my life that night.
