I'm at the point that I'd like to look into getting my Valk trike a dual axle, v-nosed enclosed trailer. I'd also like your opinions regarding using this trailer to permanently house the trike. Of course, I'm concerned about dampness and if storing the trike in one of these would be a bad call.

I'm in Central Virginia and was wondering if any of you might be able to recommend a good trailer supplier that's within a days ride?

Thanks in advance.  cooldude

I used to have a Pace enclosed MC trailer and I kept my FLSTF in it for two years. Moisture was not an issue but if you're really worried about it you can put desiccant in there and it's far more secure against critters than a shed or garage.

Dual axle might be a tad overkill though. That's a lot of trailer.

Would you really use your trailer to pull your bike inside enough to justify getting it?  Renting one might be a good alternative.  Do you have a sufficient tow vehicle to pull that dual axle trailer as well?   If it's just for storage, there are probably better options I would imagine.   IF you do camping or other events that a Toy Hauler/camper would work for you... you could check into those as well.

In any event, if you go that route, make sure you have good ventilation in the trailer and it should be fine.  However, if humidity is a real concern for storage, you could get a dehumidifier and run an extension cord out to the trailer to run it (make sure you get a constant drain type dehumidifier as well and run the drain out the floor).

I had a Wells-Cargo 6x10 enclosed single axle trailer for awhile.  It worked fine for the Valk.

I also stored the Valk in it during the winter, no problem there either. I'd recommend having a through connection with a 120 volt receptacle inside as I used a Battery Tender to keep the battery charged in the Valk. The receptacle could also be used to power a small wattage light bulb to keep the interior dry.

It made a very good 'garage' for the winter months.

Thanks for the for the replies so far. I'll answer some of the questions that have already been posted;

  • I do plan to trailer the trike. My son lives up on Long Island and I'd like to run the trike out on the east end.
  • I have a 2010 F-150 with the towing package so pulling this trailer won't be an issue.
  • I do plan to have electricity available for lighting, dehumidifier if necessary, ect.
  • Another factor for having this trailer is the availability to move other large items which seems to happen more often lately, lol. That's another reason for wanting a tandem axle.

Many Lowes home improvement stores carry a variety of enclosed trailers.

I prefer a 105" wide dual axle trailer with a side door. And when not useing, the trailer can be easily modified as a travel trailer/toy hauler .

NOTE: most trailers come with marginal tires and the wheels are not balanced. It pays to upgrad your tires and have them balanced as well.

I have a 25' as my tool shop-bike garage.

I had a lot of condensation, I will have to circulate air this winter.

this is nice, my brothers when I borrowed it, it will haul his HD2500 plus , he got it when they were laying off and none being sold, a huge discount from list, he bought one and sold it for a profit, then specked this out to fit him better.

his main use is as an outdoor setup for his toy shows

R J,

Can you store your bike in this all year? What is the insulating quality?

I purchased a Pace American Outback series trailer 6 months ago, 18 foot v-nose, with extra height ceiling 6'10" inside height, heavy duty ramp door, and rv style side door. Tandem axle etc. I am building a toyhauler out of it. 2 valkyrie interstates inside, and still have room for the kitchen etc inside, I paid right at $5000 for it, and has a 5 year full warranty.

I think tandem axle might still be overkill. Single axle trailers can still hold a lot of weight. The real benefit of the tandem axle is being able to still motor a ways if you lose a tire (which can be a big deal for some people). If you can justify the extra weight and expense for that feature then by all means.

Tandem has a lot of advantages, more weight capacity, a lot better braking, law now if 2 axles, both must have brakes. Also a tandem is a lot better pulling than a single, not as subject to wind loading, ie does not tend to swerve when passed by a semi etc. They are just a lot more stable. Take from some one that has owned about 20 different trailers and been pulling them for 55 years plus.

Tandem also ride much smoother than a single axle.  Go for the tandem.  Size matters!  LOL

Bigger is better, and you can pull it.

Yes, you can store your bike in it.     Don't know what ya mean about insulating quality.    It is all fiberglass.     Very well made........   I love the air ride, twist a valve and she lays down on the ground, ride bike in, tie it down with the built in ratchet straps, walk out, close lid and turn the air valve to off, It raises to ride height automatically.

Which model do you have and if I may ask, what was an approximate price?

I had 2 of their trailers.    AST1, and the then called Pod2.   Guy from Colorado offered me more for the Pod2 than I paid new, so he became the 2nd owner.     Now I have decided I no longer have a need for 2 trailers and I'm sticking with the AST1.    I bought the Pod2 like 8 or 9 years ago, it cost me in the ball park of $4,300.   The AST1, I bought in May 07, and gave $3,000 for it.     Then it cost me $250, to have it painted by my Body Shop buddy.     He shot 05 Infiniti 'Sparkle White' on it.    I went and bought the required paint he told me to get and almost had a heart attack at the price.    A gallon of that damn paint was almost $200.      Looks good on the fiberglass however, so I'm happy and that is all that matters.    This trailer I also use to haul my snowblower, my lawn mower, my aerator drag behind out to the shop for maintenance.     Love that AST1.    Let the air out of the air rides, and ride or drive the equipment on, turn the air valve off and she raises to the ride height and shuts off.    Strap the item down and drive off, no ramp to fight with and just as easy to unload.     In my book it was well worth the $$$$$ spent and that just made less for the kids to fight over when I croak.

In other words, on the back of some of my equipment, is a plate that says, here goes my kids inheritance.    Couldn't of said it any better.    The Pod had a tag on it that said this trailer is guarded by a PitBull with Aids.

I might add, if ya really get into all of the options you can get the price up in the 5 to 7K price range real easy.       Only option I added was the LED lights.    I think I could of bought them locally a lot cheaper, but never thought about it.

Amen, I was going to have them install the fold up tie downs in the floor, they would have charged $60 a piece. I bought my own, 12 for $68 with backing plates, bolts etc, took about 3 hours to install them, cut the 4 inch holes to flush mount etc. $720 from them, versus $68 and some sweat equity.
