I now understand the love and devotion to the Valk!!

Last Friday, I flew from STL to Tulsa to pick up the new ride.  99 Standard Black and Silver.....Sweet!!
Headed South to Dallas, then Saturday morning  NE through Paris, TX to Hot Springs, AR.  Sunday East to Fulton, MS. (First dry town of the trip... Angry ).  Monday was a bit rough.  Ever experience the misty rain that doesn't show up on radar???  Well, that was the case through Huntsville.  Then a bit more mist to the TN border.  I even saw my shadow....(for about 3 seconds).  About 10 miles W of Chattanooga, it started to really rain.  And it continued for the next few hours all the way to Ducktown, TN.  I was able to find cover and wifi..(a rare combination)....big storm.....But, a small break was here!!  Only about 50 miles to Robbinsville.  I think I can make it!!  Great ride to Rville, and within minutes of arriving at the Phillips Motel, the rain hit!!  And rained all night.

But Tuesday was clear and cool....A great ride down to Athens GA, then returned via Wahalla SC up 28 to Highlands, then 64 East to Cashiers/ 107 to Slyva and back through Bryson City to RVILLE!!  Wednesday was the Ch. Highway, then up to 360 to Vonore....then headed to the gap!!  After the Gap, 28 (more footrest scraping than ever!!)....around Fontana lake and back to Rville......oops, forgot to get beer, so a quick trip to Andrews for drinks!!

Wednesday night met some folks and had my first real moonshine.  Didn't have much but felt pretty rough Thursday for my departure...Moving slow....Headed north back up to the gap on my way to Nashville....to US1/70 most of the way...Nice ride.

Friday to west through Dover and Dickson to the "trace".....Land between the lakes.....Very boring, don't recommend it.  The trace that is.  then over to Wickliffe KY to cross the KY river in Cairo.  Route 3 north to ILL 146 to cross into Missouri, staying outside of Jackson.

Yesterday to 72 West to Park Hills, then Hwy 8 to 185 North to Hwy 50 to my final destination.

Valk ran great!  Avg about 35 MPG.  Lowest was 32, highest 38.  And it was fully loaded down.  I'll be posting some pics on my website...   www.handcolored66.com

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.

Wow, what a ride. I was just in Tenn. last week. Stayed at Indian Boundary campground, and made many trips from Sweetwater  to Robbinsville, and up thru the dragon. It was amazing up there compared to Ill. where I live.
We got caught in the rain in Robbinsville one day and rode about 30 mi. back to camp in thick fog and cold rain. Got caught without the rain togs.
Sounds like you had a great time, although damp.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.
