I was notified some time ago (during a purchase) that my Pay-Pal account would be suspended until I linked it to a active bank account or applied for one of their credit cards. I didn't like the idea of them having access to any of my accounts and I don't need another credit card so I just stopped using it and started buying things from amazon or other merchants that accepted my only credit card.

Fast forward 3 months and today I get this notice from Pay-Pal "Good news. After careful evaluation of your account, we have decided to remove your sending limit. You're a valued customer and we want you to continue using PayPal without interruption."

Has anyone else received something similar to this notice from Pay-Pal?

Thanks !!

That was a phishing email.  Like previously mentioned, paypal doesn't set limits.  I have an account with the #'s to prove it  Roll Eyes  As for fraud, the only CC fraud I've experienced was with retail merchants employees stealing the # and using it either in the store or online.  Paypal has been secure for all my numerous transactions over the last decade.

Paypal sets a "sending" (not spending) limit. When you reach it, they cut you off, unless you
"link your bank account to them", or get one of their credit cards.

My question for Gangman036: have you logged onto paypal? You can look around at your
settings and see your sending limit... has it been lifted?

I did have someone steal my ebay id and try to sell some bogus stuff about 6 years ago.  Ebay caught it pretty quick and informed me.  They gave me a new account and everything has been great since then.

I have to agree with the others, it is a scam.

i love ebay, i visit the site everyday.  never, ever, had a problem with pay-pal, only had a few issues with crooks on ebay but the amount of time i've saved from running all over town looking for "things" that i easily find on line greatly makes up for the two or three bad expierences.

for example;  i went to the local "big box store" two blocks from my house looking for one of theses; http://www.ebay.com/itm/330603013012?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 they didn't have it, and the customer service didn't care to help one bit.  wasn't in a hurry for it right away, so even though i had to wait, it was better then not being able to have it.

I'd foward that email to paypal and ask them "if they sent it."  If they didn't, they would probably would like to speak to the people that did.

I use paypal all the time and I like it.  Twice, they've gone to bat for me and cleared up issues in my favor, refunding money.

Now, one thing I do get from them, is they offer me an option to "pay later and recieve $10 credit for signing up to do it."  I'd rather just pay as I play.

as above. If you just click "forward" and send the email to spoof@paypal.com they will recieve it and you'll usually get an answer within a day or two. ebay/paypal is just as evil as most banking/buying services and often, just as useful. The real downside is that paypal isn't a bank as far as legal structure, so they areexempt from many banking laws and reulations. If you DO ever have a problem with them, there aren't a lot of places you can go fro help gummint-wise. On the other hand-we all love and trust the banks because they treat us so well..................................

I had the same feeling.  I do some business on Ebay so I set up a separate account just to link to PayPal that is not connected to my other accounts.  This linking requirement has been in effect for quite some time for people who sell on Ebay.

I did the same thing, I have an account that is just for E Bay purchases and I never keep much money in it, "just in case".

I've had a Pay Pal account since 2004 and haven't had any issues with them.

Incidentally I recently ordered somethings online (not through E Bay) and paid with Pay Pal, when it became obvious that the items weren't going to be shipped.

I opened a dispute with Pay Pal and within a couple of days Pay Pal had refunded my money.

I had the linking request come up when I purchased a large industrial lathe on "E" bay. Did the link, have had no problems since.
