I was about 10 miles from Van Horn TX west bound rolling over a hill there he was one of Texas's finest state troopers.   Shocked  I was only going about 63 but I didn't have my seat belt properly adjusted over my shoulder and that earned me a ticket  Lips Sealed I of course pointed out that when he said I didn't have it on, I said 'well it was latched but not across my shoulder'

nice guy tho we had a cool talk about fire arms after he wrote me the ticket. he carries a .357 sig I'm a little behind the times G&A so I asked what the difference was between the sig and the magnum. it's a necked down .40 to .357.  live and learn, I shook his hand before he took off and told him to be safe.

(learned years ago never, EVER argue with a lawman)

 Shocked Shocked Shocked
For a guy that just got a ticket you have a pretty good attitude about the whole thing.  I might be friendly with the LEO if he gave me a warning, but would be POed for getting stopped with a several hundred $$ fine for a BS stop.  tickedoff tickedoff

Sounds like in our area where county sheriff's on motorcycles spend the day hiding behind signs and trees all day trying to generate some additional income for the county.  Right where I live there are several main drags that this happens every day.  I was filling up with gas and two LEO were hiding behind a sign while parked on the station's property hitting cars with LIDAR as they drove by.

I watched them as I was getting gas and then parked and went in the minimart to observe for a while.  Saw them ticket at least 4 autos in a short period.. IMHO none of the cars were driving in a reckless manner, just happened to be a bit over the 45 mph limit.  That irritates the crap out of me! tickedoff tickedoff

Don't want to come down too hard on LEO, but those type tactics are just wrong.  Don't make it any safer for me or my family.  so much for my rant.

The speed limit is 45, the cops are writing tickets to people who are speeding, and you are irritated?

Exactly......They are doing their job. That is what you are paying their wages for....catching people breaking the law. If you went pass a donut shop and saw a dozen cruisers setting in the parking lot you would be angry because they weren't out catching speeders in you neighborhhood. If you lived on that street and had children you would be upset if they weren't there. Don't call them IDIOTs or other un-called for terms for catching you, be mad at yourself for getting caught.

In our small city, the LEO's generally give you the benefit of a doubt up to 8- 10 mph UNLESS you're in a school zone or children are present.

Crackdowns are when residents complain about consistent speeding, then it's radar and ticket time.
Even though we have a city court, we don't try to make money off the slightly over the speed limit drivers.

I like my town.

I come into a lot of contact with police and fire in my work.  Respect the difficulties of their jobs.

Cops and lawyers, everybody like to bag on them UNTIL they need one.

What I don't respect are policies that target not for safety and protection, but are formulated to produce income, ie "speed traps", some cameras targeting lights or isolated stop signs for "rolling stops".  Clearly in some places there are "quotas" to meet not for safety, but for income.

Lots of controversy in some places around here with "cameras" where suppliers and city governments reap lots of $$ with same.  Many cities reevaluating if this is the way they want to enforce the law.

Have no problem policing and targeting areas known for reckless drivers and speeders to provide safer environment.  that is NOT what I am describing above.  And, by the way, I have not been ticketed in over 25 years, so I'm not upset about some personal event involving myself.

I am also fully aware that ALL members of this board come to a "complete" stop, put the foot down and then resume their way at the isolated stop sign that hasn't seen a vehicle in the last 45 min.  Or have a restrictor on the throttle that doesn't allow the bike to get up to 65 mph on that isolated country road with the 55 mph limit  where you don't want to have a problem because might not see another vehicle for an extended period of time.  Or hang out in the right lane on freeway at speed limit with all other traffic flying by or tailgating because they want to be past you.

So heading out for a ride since I am off today.  Smiley Will not "bag" on anyone and will not disobey ANY regulation or participate in filling a QUOTA.  Will give nice Ride Report and refrain from controversy.  cooldude

I technically break the law all the time. I just don't whine when it's legit.

And just because a stop sign is in the middle of a very slow intersection does not mean that it's not necessary.
