Heres one more step to trip planning if you dont already do it.  Fraud is growing fast and peoples card numbers are being hacked at an alarming rate.

I just had to dispute 3 fraudulant charges and get a new card number.  My credit union watches things closely.  So closely in fact they most likely will shut my card down if I travel too far away from home and try to use my card without notifying them in advance.

So one more line item on the pre-departure checklist.....tell the bank where you will be using the card so they dont freeze it in the middle of your trip

i never tell 'em when or were i'm going.  None of their business.  although i did have my card frozen after spending $1500 in diesel fuel, airline tickets, and truck rentals from phoenix to Chicago once!  it was quite embarrassing when they froze the account in the middle of Texas, i was with my brother that doesn't have very good credit and i knew i couldn't use his credit card 'cause it only had a $200 limit.  that's why i'll carry two different card, if one doesn’t work, i'll use the other.

there are a lot of things the credit card companies can do to make using their cards more secure, requiring the user to enter a pin number during every transaction is one of 'em, thing is they make  money the more you use 'em and people don't want to be hassled with pin numbers.

Mine got frozen and declined at the *end* of my trip, 40 miles from home. Yup, helps to have more than one card. Card companies suggest the calling bit. I think the next time they pull that stunt, I'll just leave it frozen.

Well, I didnt read any politics into it.  When my money got taken this time and the bank replaced it without question, it comes from their insurance.  We all pay for that insurance with increased fees and whatever the bank charges us.  So I figure they have the right to be on top of it and Id rather cooperate with their fight against these dirtbags.  They know where you are anyways by the tracking your purchases....all you are doing by notifying them is taking away their doubt that it really is you so they let you do what you are doing.
