Wow. Jackets and ties. I'm not sure where my tie is. Haven't needed it in 9 years. Very nice bikes.

If you had a Brough Superior right now you would be very wealthy. I have a friend that has several, and they have gatherings in far away places. One year they all shipped their Broughs to Europe for a tour through the Alps. Another time he rode the Mountains in India and Burma. As for the trip report from the '50s, I found it very interesting. Having been born and raised in Germany, and then in the '80s working for a Munich based company and traveling through Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland, I travelled through many of the same towns, but by car. The roads by then were very much improved. As for the outfits that were worn then, you can see the same on most of the old photos for the beginning of motorcycling. As a matter of fact, in most cases, anytime you left the house, you would be dressed like that! Excellent post! Thanks for posting it!

A lot of planning had to go into those trips back then... petrol was farther and few between. Where to stay...where to eat... where to bed down for the night. True adventurers.. Great pics. Thanks for sharing. Doesn't look like they had a whole lot with them either.

Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I knew I had seen the tank trim on the Yamaha Roadliner/Stratoliner long ago, just couldn't remember where. That styling cue came from 50s era Triumphs!

Very cool, thanks for sharing.
My father kept detailed logs for all his bikes and I still have most of them. On July 4th AHC 650 had 24,924 miles showing and he gave it a full service. On July 19th it had 26,960 showing and just had an oil change and thorough checkover. On the trip he spent £7 and 14 shillings on petrol and 10s on oil and 4s on a headlight bulb.
Whole trip was like $35. LOL

Some guy is making new ones in Austria... to exacting standards, apparently... what's that whacky frob hanging off the front of the motor? http://www.gizmag.com/brough-superior-the-worlds-most-expensive-motorcycle/17318/-Mike

And to think it was all done without the internet or a cell phone And NO GPS! Heck, they thought the world was still flat then. ??? Well, OK, they knew it was round, but the moon was still made of green cheese anyways. Right?
