I have just enough electrical knowledge to be dangerous, so I need some of you electrical gurus to help me out.  I'm going to be putting 2 aftermarket headlights on a Standard in place of the OEM headlight.  Both will be on at the same time.  Will also be coming up with a way to have the indicator lights hooked up somewhere on the triple tree/lights so I can see them.  Main thing I'm wondering is whether I'm going to need some type of relay or something to handle the extra headlight's power draw.  The mechanics of it all isn't a problem, just the electrical portion baffles me.  Thanks!

Yes, I would add a relay...the standard headlight current pulls through the starter switch and is iffy with just the stock headlight.

You can do the headlight relay mod, just add another bulb for your dual setup.

As often is the case, shoptalk is your friend!

I would look into one of these kits.  They are of high quality and used extensively on the Rocket 3...and other twin headlight Triumphs.

Good luck....

Excellent!  Thank you both for your help.  Found the wiring kit that is ready-made with the relays and all I have to do is plug it in for the cheap price of $60.  Worth every penny to me!   Wink

If it was me, I'd start from scratch on the wiring and yes, a relay for each lamp.

Easy way out would be to have to turn the lamps on after ya get her started.   Would go out when the key is turned off.

1. Turn key on.
2. Turn lamps off maually.
3. Start the beast
4. Turn the lamps on.

Crude, but it will work.

Otherwise y got to go into the headlamp (current) and find the wire that kills the lamps when ya hit the start.

My next question, is what are you going to do with all those wires in the stock headlamp?   Hadn't thought of that had ya.

You're welcome.  These work great and the quality is top notch.  Much better than what most could fabricate.  They use quality connectors, proper gauge wiring, weatherproofing, and nice compact relays.  These are made to order and come directly from Japan, so they take a week or 10 days sometimes but well worth the wait.

Enjoy.....
