I too speak fluent dog.  Always have, as far as I can remember.  When ever I visit a friend, their dog thinks I'm really there to see them.  Sometimes I am.

I once was posed the question:  If you lock your girlfriend and your dog in a trunk and come back an hour later to let them out, which one would be happy to see you?
