I am happy to say that after a lot of looking for the buzzing noise at apprx. 2000-2300 RPM, I finally fouind it.
I checked the notorius buzz bolt and most of the other common sounds.
I would have been willing to bet it was coming from the frt. of the engine area, but no, it was coming from the Kuryakn Trans cover [r/side].
They have been on the bike since '98 and only recently started making me crazy each time I accelerated in this rpm range.
I pulled it off and looked at the mounting bolts. They had fiber insulating washers on them, and 2 of the 3 washers were deteriorated and split in half. I replaced the washers [courtesy of Home Depot] and now it's fine.
Hope this helps others who might have this accessory on their bike

Man...  Hope yer right.  I've had this going on since last fall, and it's makin me nutz  uglystupid2

No matter what gear, same RPM (2100 - 2300), I get this metalic noise...  Thought it was clutch, bearings, something in the engine...  Checked the buzz bolt, NOTHING!!!

I had to stop in to work, but I'm gonna check that when I get home.

I'll report back.

Some months back I too was having the same buzzing. I finally bought and replaced the infamous bolt all to no avial.  I too found the after placing insulation gaskets (rubber ones) inside and outside on the tranny mounting bolts all the buzzing stopped.  I'm sorry I didn't double back and post it.  Actually, I meant too, but wasn't sure that was the cure and decided to ride it for a while, THEN I forgot.

I think I may be hearing the same buzz.  Before you found the noise did the covers appears to be tight?  Mine seem tight.  If I tap them I do not get an rattle.

I am getting a similar noise on m 98. First tell me what the infamous buzz bolt is. Then I will pull the tranny cover bolts.

I have what I think is the same noise happening with my 98.
Sounds like it is comming from the font end.

You say the washers for the bolt on the Kury trans cover?
I assume this washer goes to the inside portion of the bolt?

How about putting some kind of insulator on the inside of the trans cover to also help reduce noise, has anyone done this yet?

I just noticed a buzz after I installed my chrome neck cover in front of the Tank.

I have one of the show chrome covers that is a 2 piece setup, seemed to work ok when I first installed but after  a remove and replace to check something under the tank out it now buzzs from about 2500rpm up to about 3200rpm. Verified by just putting my hand on it while riding and the buzz goes away. I need to take it off again and put some type of buffering material between the 2 pieces.

I spent about 1 summer looking for a buzz that would happen at a certain RPM range.  It took me forever to pin point it.   It ended up being the add-on Left side Chrome Engine hanger piece.  It went off like a tuning fork.  I know the frustration - I damn near tore the bike apart before I found it.  Keep looking hopefully you find it.

I remember reading here that you could attach some self sticking (glue on one side) rubber foam strips to the back side of the tranny cover to kill the buzzing too.

did the buzzing noise go away as soon as you let off the throttle

I have been tryin to pin down a noise that sounds like noise in the headphones when on the throttle.  Of course I am not wearing headphones but its what it sound like and when I let off the throttle it goes away

TIA
