I just have to realize that the season is over. Autumn storms are coming, and it starts to snow on the peaks.
Here are some pictures from this year's rides in Norway

Norway shares the same latitude as Alaska, Greenland and Siberia, but compared to these areas Norway has a pleasant climate because of the Gulf Stream.
Late June to early August is when summer is at its peak. This is when the weather is at its most stable and warmest. Temperatures in July and August can reach 75°F - 80°F.
Average temperature in July and August is 60°F. Weather and temperatures can change quickly, especially in the mountains.

"The Troll Ladder" is a popular tourist attraction due to its steep incline of 9 % and eleven hairpin bends up a steep mountain side.

Pretty spectacular.  Don't like to hear that your riding season is over though.  Cry

I get to ride all year, just hot as heck in the summer so try to get up in mtns a lot.  it is really getting nice in the desert now so hope to get in lots of riding over the winter.

Nice to have your daughter join you.  Mine is a bit older, but always nice to share a ride with her.

I always sympathize with riders who have to put their rides up for the winter.  Having lived in the Midwest for over half my life I fully understand what winter means.  Though there was that one guy in the late 1970’s who rode his first generation Goldwing everyday even through the snow.

Here in Arizona we ride 365 days per year though there are parts of summer days that are less desirable than others.  We also have many technically challenging roads so if you ever feel the need you know where you can come to stretch your riding year.  Lots of places rent rides or we may actually be able to find you a loaner and you’ll find that there are many friendly riders who will be willing to escort you.

Thanks for posting the images.

Dag, My wife, Norwegian would love to see Norway. I had thought about touring with her and a ski trip for me. But I don't know much about the ski regions. I rember the 1994 olympics in Lillehammer, it looked real cold and very little sunlight. Is there any skiing you can suggest?

Thanks

The Norwegian ski resort of Oppdal is one of the larger Ski Resorts in Norway and has direct access to 82km of downhill skiing, with 28 individual pistes, served by 16 ski lifts.
This is not far from where I lives.

Is that one of the fjords where the Germans hid the Tirpitz during WWII? How deep is that thing?

Tirpitz were in the norther part of Norway, close to the Russian border.
On 12 November 1944, Lancaster Bomber Squadrons 9 and 617 set forth towards Tromsö, where the Tirpitz was at anchor. They were joined by Soviet aircraft. The devastating aerial bombardment was completed in minutes and with her port side ripped open the Tirpitz capsized and sank.
The loss of life was huge: 1,204 seamen died.

This fjord is 2,300 Feet deep

Pretty wild. I seem to recall that the Brits built a huge bomb just for the occasion.

Hi Anvil,

We did build a huge bomb for the occasion - the Tallboy - a 12,000 lb monster, using more powerful explosive than traditional TNT, and I believe Tirpitz was hit three times directly in the last raid. It was designed by Barnes Wallis, the guy who built the bouncing bomb. Only the Lancaster was capable of lifting it. Gotta hand it to the Germans, they could certainly make 'em tough - I mean THREE Hits by a 12,000 pounder travelling at above the speed of sound? That's some ship.

That bomb was dwarfed by the Grand Slam however, an 'earthquake bomb' that weighed 22,000lbs and is, as far as I'm aware still the largest conventional bomb every built in terms of weight. I think the US now has a similar thing, but if memory serves its 1000lbs smaller. The bomb was so large it changed the external shape of the aircraft, with the result that, so the story goes, it was fired upon by our own AA.

I believe we used the Grand slam to demolish a certain viaduct by shaking the foundations to pieces.
