Hip Replacement. Anyone here have one?

I will be getting a hip replaced sometime in the near future. Been reading some stuff on the internet. Just wondering if anyone here has had one, Also I would appreciate any tips or info you would care to share with me about it. Please feel free to post here, send me a PM or a direct email. Have a friend who had one, at first he was miserable.  Once the pain went away he was glad he did it.
One thing I would suggest is you go to the dentist and make sure your teeth are ok.  If you have any kind of infection it will go to the replacement.  I know, it happened to my husband not fun

As of yet, he has not been asked to "Dance with the Stars".

My G-pa had one and so did my 2 of my biker friends. They heal fast. Far faster then knees. 1 guy was riding within 2 weeks. G-pa was in his 70's when he had his. Still was able to get into the tractor but not as well. But then again the tractor steps are super high.

I don't have one myself, but have helped put thousands of joints in others over the years. As a surgical assist RN I participate hands on in the operating room Placing total knees and hips on a dialy basis.

I know at least three people that had the surgery and one of them needed both hips done.  All of them were super happy with the procedure.

I've had both hips replaced, Right one in 1997 and the left one in February of this year. Would have to say both times it was the best thing I ever did. Last fall I could hardly walk because of the pain. Went from using one cane to two and since I had no insurance I was really getting close to giving up. Found a great surgeon who gave me a break on the cost and a hospital here in town gave me a discount as well. It may take me 10 years to pay it off but it was worth it.

Now no pain what-so-ever. walk with no limp. play golf 3 or 4 times a week. I do feel a little cramp when riding but as soon as I stop and walk around for a while I'm ready to go again, same thing driving a car though but not as quick.

Do it you wont regret!

  Don't hesitate to have it done. Last Nov. 1st. a monday went to hospital came home thursday. Put walker in closet saturday. used cane for 3 weeks .Brotherinlaw drove me to hunting camp in Potter county Pa. after TURKEY DAY . I DROVE HOME! I was able to have percocet for the pain . Do the prelim exercises to strenthen the upper body .They will give you all the info and help you will need. I wish I would have done 10 years sooner .Email me if you need more info. BERT

How cool is Orthopedic surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I scrubbed in on dozens of knees and hips when I did my residency.  Cordless powertools, titanium hardware and measuring devices.....ALL STERILE.  The only thing I didn't like about some hips was the oozing of blood and having to wear those knee high booties.  I understand that the incisions now are much smaller, which decreases the amount of bleeding.

I wanted to add with the first hip in '97 recovery took a month or more with the second one this year I threw the cane away the day I got home from the hospital on Saturday went to work on Monday. Things have improved in 12 years. Do the rehab to get the muscles back in shape before and after.

Rehab is the key to recovery.   Do what they say.

I never had a hip replaced, but I did get a new knee.

You will have to take 4 little pills an hour before you go to the dentist everytime.

If not and you get infection, Guess where it locates, you got it, in the hip or the knee, that was replaced.

My knee, had surgery at 7:00 AM, came to about 3:00 PM, couldn't get a nurse, and I had to go potty.  Finally got out of bed and walked to the bathroom, did my job, and then fell, so I had to pull the emergency cable.    I'll tell ya, that really gets their attention.     I got my ass chewed, they asked why I did it, told them and the nurse assigned to me got her ass chewed also.   The 1st day after, I went to Physical Therapy with my walker,  I walked back to my room without the walker.    My wife was bitching her head off, but she finally shut up.

Now, I only use the cane or walker, when my head doesn't get enough blood, when I get up too fast.  It is basically called  passing out.   LOL......

My hip is painful  for the last 4 months , still walk with no limp , but I see it coming .
If I do need one , I am going to another country like New Zealand or Costa Rica.

 I have replaced 4 sets of HIPS along with LIPS and BOOBS  all because they did not act rite,2 liked other men while I was on the road . and 2 wanted money all the time.------ -----OK, I changed the topic, I am 66 and a half and still got my tonsils, nothing has been replaced as of yet.    you folks have a great day      and most of all        GOD BLESS        signed    Bogator
