I used one for 2 weeks on a cross country trip. Up until 50 MPH they're OK. Wind noise makes them difficult to hear after that. I used the handlebar mounted Push-to-Talk button. My buddy didn't. he was frustrated trying to find the PTT button on the unit at highway speeds. Not waterproof. But it's the cheapest way to go.

Bud and I tried them, both the cheap one and the GMRS. Fabbed a mount for the bars and didnt use the helment mount. They worked ok for a while, but the headsets were junk. Sounded great when new, but soon were intermittent, connections at the speakers shorted out. Forget the sound actuation, PTT is the only way. We went to CBs, much more reliable.

Price is the issue on this one...Not so much for me as I have an Interstate with the CB but with my brother who is running an 03 GoldWing without the CB. It's A big expense to outfit the Wing with a CB and associated stuff.
Thanks for the feed back. It's appreciated...

Our riding group used these for about 3 years. Definitely PTT button is the way to go, VOX is too intermittent. We did not think sound quality was a huge issue. We all mounted ours on the handlebars instead of your helmet. One advantage for Tourer and Standard riders is that it has an auxillary input allowing you to play iPods and the like through the headsets. They claim a range of 5 miles, more like 2 in reality. We chose this route simply for price. CB was too expensive for any of us, and the portability was nice if you had another bike, lending it out, or if someone was in a "chase" vehicle. One owner had an issue with a bad battery, but it was replaced without issue, down side is we were in the middle of a trip. Each of us bought the in-line charger which was way more convenient that plugging in each night of a trip and carrying the charger

Since we now have CBs on all but the Rune, I'm selling a pair of them, for less than the price of one unit. E-mail me if interested. Our headsets are for open face helmets.
Although the built-in CBs are more convenient, the Chatterbox GMRSX1 units have a much better range.
