I am 50 yrs. old and I have had my Valk since new in 99. I plan on keeping it and also feel like getting a crotch rocket, something like a CBR1000. I there something wrong with me? Or should I go for it? Was thinking of a used one.

Like an older CBR1000F? The ZX11 generation stuff or are you talking about a late generation literbike of the RR variety?

Boxer rebellion, the Holy Child. They all pay their rent. But none together can testify to the rhythm of a road well bent. Saddles and zip codes, passports and gates, the Jones' keep. In August the water is trickling, in April it's furious deep.

Okay then. Are you crazy for wanting one? No. I grew up on sportbikes, I know how much fun they can be. I still miss my 954RR once in a while. That bike did NOTHING WRONG. In fact, it was so good that it had me regularly riding much faster than I had any business going. It made me feel like a superhero and I'm anything but. That's why I decided that I was done with that kind of machine.
Were I you (and I'm obviously not) I'd consider a modern 600 supersport instead. You're still going to be well past 100 horsepower and even lighter still but without the surplus of horsepower that you'll never need on public roads. You could also consider a super standard with a set of real handlebars (think Aprilia Tuono or something like that). The tucked racing position is great on a racetrack where you know what you're getting on each lap, but real handlebars are better for actual road riding where conditions change and visibility is key.
I won't lie though, there are times when I miss third gear wheelies and I do miss that focus and clarity that comes with riding much too fast on a twisty, bumpy piece of pavement. But my kids will miss me more if I don't come back.

Get a lightly used DRZ400 and go offroad. Or a DR650.
It'a whole different world waiting to be explored.
2 sets of wheels so you can motard it and have as much fun as you would on a sport bike.

I had a DRZ400SM. Some of the most fun I've ever had on a motorcycle.

About 3 years ago my husband Larry decided he wanted a crotch rocket. He bought a CBR929RR, used. He loves it. He is 6ft, weights 220, and has long arms. He can ride the 929 all day and not have any problems, except for a sore butt and we solved that problem with a Corbin seat. After having the bike a couple of months, his words were, "if I had had this bike when I was younger, I would have probably gotten myself killed on it, I think I have grown up enough to ride it now." He turned 49 this Sept. It is not the bike, it is the rider that twists the throttle. If you want one, go for it.

72 here and have a Kawasaki ZX14, a Kawasaki Concours1400, and a Kawasaki Diesel Mule. Still have 2 Valks, But they are out of service untill I get the time and inclination to work on them. Nothing wrong with something different, and a rocket gets exciting at hyper speeds. Go for it.

Not really a crotch rocket but it ran like one...2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200 S ....I bought this bike new in 2005 as a factory left over it was $5,250 out the door and put 33,000 trouble free miles on it . The fastest I've ever been was on this bike 165 mph and still pulling it had a full Dale Walker HoleShot exhaust system and Dale Walker 2nd stage jet kit. It got to a point that I knew if I kept this bike I was going to get hurt or killed on it as the adrenaline rush was always there .
