Ok. So we all know that Honda isn't making our beloved lady anymore. What I'm wondering is how to get atleast 10 more years out of my 99 Std that currently has 18400ish miles on it. Unfortunately the PO was a bum, and her previous maintenance was a bit on the lacking side. I've caught up on all of it, adjustments, fluid changes, tune-up, desmog, etc. But I want 10 more years out of it. I know that there;ll be wear and tear items like brakes, wheel bearings, etc, but what else have you guys had to do, that have had you Valks since new.

I know the Honda thing. I had an '82 ATC 185S when I was younger and rode that thing like it was stolen and on fire. It wqas 12yrs old when I got it, and the guy I sold it to in highschool is teaching his kids how to ride it now. I just want to do the same with my Valk.

DDT is up to around 430,000 plus miles... Should take you several years to match that then worry about it      cooldude

I have actually locked a few Honda motors up.

They are not bullet proof but pret near.

I was a kid and thought all you had to do was add 20/50 once in a while.

Clean the air filter that was for sissies.

Locked up a CL100 and a CR250 Elsinore.

Lost 3rd gear on CR175 Honda Enduro.

Lost a syncrynizer on a Vulcan 1500 Classic.

Tranny locked up on a ZRX1200R leaving the dealer.

Later had tranny problems on the same 1200.

No problem on my 2007 Harley yet.

So as you can see Japanese bikes do have problems they are not jsut famous for those said problems.

My Interstate now has 59,000 on it and the owner before me took great care of all you mentioned.

So I will never probably buy another new bike just keep these going.

WHen you have found something good keep it.

THat is my new motto.

Plus I want to retire early.

110,000 miles here.
You will wear out your rotors around 100K after many sets of brake pads, do the rear maintenence thing like previously mentioned, "check" your timing belts at 100K, change all your fluids when you feel like it, keep the electrical connections clean & store your Valk inside when not in use.
You will go well past 100K & 10 years with a minimum of hassles.
Our Valks are NOT your typical big cruiser motorcycle due to Honda engineering & the flat 6 engine design.  cooldude

Put over 1,000 miles on 2 of the the old girls last weekend between Biketoberfest in Daytona & a mini vacation trip to Destin FL on the panhandle Gulf Coast. Wink
Turnin' miles while still turnin' heads!

Thursday at the Willie's Tropical Tattoo chopper show in Daytona.

At the condo in Destin Friday at noon.
