Anybody in the Houston area have a vacuum gauge rig for carb sync that I can borrow, rent, or steal?

Good luck, tried this in Atlanta, GA a few months ago and noone stepped in to help.
Just purchased a carb sync tool, waiting for it to be delivered.

Misfit,
Thanks for the offer.  Shes still running good.  Not in dire need, just thought I'd go through the maintenance procedure for good measure.  I'll see what else pops up, and keep you in mind.  May just build my own.

Didn't see this for quite a while.  Do you still need it?

and make things.. But,, a really easy simple way to adjust your carburetors is with one good vacuum gauge and a lot of vacuum tubing..

OK, you got me on this one.  How do you sync carbs with only one guage?  I can see a (very painful) process for doing it with two, but not one.

Mark,
Yes, I still need one...at some point.  I've decided that what I really need is to clean and possibly rejet the carbs on both Valks.  I might get one done before Inzane.  Do you have one?  If so, I know how to reach you when I really need it.

I'm curious too about calibrating with one gauge.  Multiple gauges do introduce some gauge calibration error, but I don't think it really has to be all that precise.  I'm sure one gauge can work, but it's got to be a bit of a headache.

Try to find an automotive gauge that has a damper screw.. If not then you'll need to dampen the pulses somehow[ with forceps or a needle valve from an aquarium store,etc].. Attach the vacuum tubing to each cylinder and run them to convenient location on their respective sides of the bike and plug them with something such as a golf tee.. I put a  'T' in the #3 line so a quick reading is always available and any one of the remaining lines can be attached to that 'T' .. I use forceps to pinch off the line I'm not checking.. This way a reading from #3 is always easy to compare to the one your checking/adjusting. You just have to make sure that the correct line is pinched and that your pulling vacuum from only one line.. It takes longer to write this than to do the job..Honda says the difference among cylinders can be 1.6 in/hg, which is a lot.. You can easily adjust to less than 1/2 in/hg..

So basically you're switching the guage from one cylinder to the next, and back and forth and so on and so forth.  When each adjust changes the other five cylinders, that sounds like a major pain.  I've done it with two banks of 3 gauges, which would only speed things up, and it certainly took longer than it takes to type this.
I know I'm not a speed demon when it comes to wrenching, but I didn't think I'm THAT slow relative to everyone else...

Roger,
On your way to Inzane, come a day early through Albuquerque and we'll sync those carbs. I have a 6 guage set up and a spare room at my house for you two.

Steve,
Thanks for the offer.  Would love to take you up on it.  But, I don't have the extra day or time to go through Albuquerque.  We have to route through OKC to drop-off a passenger.  From there our fastest route is on north and across KS.

We appear to be getting a set of gauges, and they will become the official Houston set, for beg/borrow/NOTsteal.  I have no idea of projected arrival date, so patience is requested.  I will explain where they came from when they arrive.
So, when they do, we'll take care of Duct Tape's sync, as well as anyone else who wants to check their sync (I'll be in line right behind Roger.)
